Album Notes
This album is a return to Rupert Wates's roots - hence the title. It features just his voice and guitar, recorded live, with no overdubs and mostly in one take. It's intended partly as a form of homage to the artists he grew up listening to - among them Leo Kottke, John Martyn, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake - and it's a worthy continuation of the fire they first set ablaze.
'His guitar playing is as good as it gets, matched by his skill as a songwriter...He is a brilliant lyricist with the ability to paint pictures in the listener's mind with subtle brushstrokes, all accompanied by some wonderful fingerstyle acoustic guitar work...'Ballad Of A Brown Eyed Girl' is a typical example of Rupert's outstanding musical skill and talent...All in all, this is an album that deserves to be treasured...'  Roy Stanbridge, FATEA UK (www.fatea-records.co.uk/magazine/reviews/RupertWates2/

Excellence in writing and musical virtuosity
Wates’ tenth album truly does bring the artist back ‘Full Circle’ to his musical roots. Simply voice and guitar, this album reminds the listener that real musical talent lies in the marriage of excellence in writing and musical virtuosity—Wates possess both and this is clearly demonstrated in his latest offering.
In typical Wates fashion, the artwork on this album—the photography, the story told—captures the imagination well before the album begins to play.
While difficult to point to one or two songs that rise to the top on this superb album, there is no question that Wates shines on ‘Driverless Train’, exhibiting guitar playing second to none. Few have mastered the guitar in the way Wates has, and he makes it seem effortless.
‘I’m Amazed’ is what Wates has always done best—reach the listener’s heart by baring his own heart in response to a true and lasting love that even over time feels new. ‘Ballad of a Brown Eyed Girl’ is one of the most creative offerings in this collection and may even be the best of this outstanding compilation. The story captures the listener from the first line and the melody leads the listener gently through to the end. It is remarkable.
It wouldn’t be a Rupert Wates album if there weren’t at least one or two reminders of the world in which we live, where we are in history and our responsibility. That reminder on this album is ‘The Sun on Clear Water’, written in response to yet another tragedy touching our children. Wates’ voice guides the listener through the heartbreak of the story but never scolds. It’s why we listen.
The title song of this collection ‘Full Circle’ is clearly how Wates sees himself and his craft and the life lessons he’s opened himself to while on his life’s journey. It is a story of self-reflection to which any listener can relate.
No one tells a story like Rupert Wates because there are few who are as committed to their craft as he is. This album expresses that commitment in the most beautiful way.

My new favorite album!
Long time fans of Mr. Wates' work, we've been eagerly awaiting the release of his newest album-' Full Circle' did not disappoint! Moving lyrics, unforgettable melodies, gorgeous artwork, and an overall beautiful album. Highly recommended!

Definitely not a homage to the great singer/songwriters Wates listened to growing up and listed in description. Wates is a talented songwriter/singer but this CD does not do him or music justice. Instead, Full Circle is a mediocre transference of parts of Wates life. Indeed Wates himself is in a driverless train, lost. This is not Roger Waters Full Circle but it seems Wates may have borrowed the thought. I have listened to the songs as I have listened to all of Wates music and the creativity is out of this one. He begs for forgiveness from his wife for his many transgressions with many women (who he has hurt by not informing them of his marriage) and so on. She seems to stupidly forgive him in the song. Sad, indeed. Wates CD is a reflection of Wates life: troubled.

An Achievement
Wow! I have followed Rupert for many years, and enjoy all his work. This album is the culmination of years on the road, and an insane amount of practice. The beauty of each song and the care Rupert takes to bring a vibrancy to the music is truly enchanting. Of course, the guitar skills on this album rival any great musician past or present. I love the lyrics. My favorite song after listening several times to the album is a tie between the achingly sweet Ballad of A Brown eyed Girl & gentle The Sun on Clear Water. The driving pace on Driverless Train makes me feel the rush of passing time. God Knows shows Rupert's gentle tenor over a lush picking pattern. Of course, the album starts with I'm Amazed -- and it sets the stage beautifully for what the album contains -- solid, beautiful, exceptional, poignant music that makes you take the time to listen without distraction. It is now part of my regular playlist, and I highly recommend it to others!
