Album Notes
Rural Legend (Formerly the Marksmen)

We're three musicians who play and sing a wide variety of traditional and popular music from the era of sea shanties right up to the present day. Come to one of our performances and you'll hear Beatles tunes, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Dylan, Irish tunes, and many other styles and songsmiths - each one transformed by our unique blend of drums, guitar, cello, and vocal harmonies (with an occasional bass or harmonica added just for fun).

Of course, this album can include just a sampling of our repertoire, and kind of music you'll hear at one of our gigs. We love the challenge of molding a song to our instrumentation, and our ears are always open for the next great tune to include in our next performance - or our next CD!

Mark Weaver - Lead Vocals & Percussion

Mark has been layin' it down on the drums and singing in local bands for over 20 years. He formed The Marksmen in 1998, with the help of guitarist Steve Nivison and harmony master Jack Burns.

Steve Nivison - Guitars & Backing Vocals

Another founding member of The Marksmen, Steve is no stranger to the local music scene. He has been performing in local bands for well over two decades. Steve's tasteful, steady, melodic guitar work is a Marksmen trademark.

Jim Kirchmyer - Cello & Backing Vocals, etc.

Jim's cello gives us a unique sound. And as a classically trained musician and performer of many genres, he enjoys weaving cello strands into all our arrangements.
