Album Notes
Russ Arlotta has been under the songwriter’s unpredictable spell since the early 1970's (writing his first song at 15). He has tried to remain true and honest to that muse whenever she calls and to listen to what she has to say: “Songs serve many purposes... They may comfort or confront... challenge or motivate... or simply make for a gratifying, pleasant diversion... Certain songs can even help in healing those injured in heart or mind... And every now and again there comes along a song that holds within it, a key... or perhaps a rope ladder... something which may open an unexpected door, ... or lift us above the walls we build for ourselves - to glimpse something bigger... something beautiful... something profound... ” Russ is the youngest of four siblings. He attended high school and college in the seventies, received a B.A. in English; a J.D. in law followed. He is a practicing attorney by day and songwriter/musician by night.

For the "Heart to Learn" like its predecessor, "The Road We Travel" is a compilation of songs written by Russ over a time period that spans decades. Regardless of the year penned, the hope is that these songs find their way to the listener's heart
unencumbered by time or its passing.

Beautifully done!
The musicianship on this CD is simply Lovely!! The vocal harmonies highlight the heartfelt lyrics so , so well. Perfect songs for a generation with more years in the past than the future, yet still determined to live life with gusto!!! I keep trying to listen without shedding a tear or two...but have yet to succeed! Although the lyrical content is central, there are perfectly placed and superbly executed instrumental breaks that really are wonderful. Kudos to all involved!

Songsmithing in its purest form.
Russ Arlotta’s new release has the same beautiful quality as his first CD except that Russ has perfected his songwriting with an extraordinary depth and honesty that engages mind, heart and soul with magical ease . For The Heart To Learn is a spirited journey that shares his most vulnerable views and invites me to place my own finger on the pulse of this Life. The supporting musicians collaborating on this CD are DC area’s most seasoned.
It’s a beautiful collection of songs, Everything about this CD is accomplished!

Given' it All Away
Mr. Arlotta has outdone himself on this CD. The melodies and lyrics stay with you throughout your day. The musicians are topnotch adding just the right touch to the tunes. I particularly enjoyed the harmonica, guitars, fiddles, mandolin and harmony singing. I would highly recommend this recording.

Songs for our times
Russ Arlotta doesn't just make lovely music, picking musicians and a co-producer (the deeply talented Zan McLeod) who help make this album a pleasure to listen to. Arlotta writes songs that speak to the angst, anxiety, and glory of living in the weirdly uncertain times in which we all find ourselves. There's no self-indulgence, no wasted effort in his writing. Whether serious (the opener, At the Crossroads) or silly (Giving It All Away), his songs have something important to say, something always worth listening to, and multiple times. The songs attest to a finely honed soul who has wrestled with some of the grandest of life's issues and affirms that one can come out the other side whole. This album is a tremendous affirmation of life and living in spite of all odds.
