Album Notes
A year and a half in the making, this project is a collection of 14 songs including 11 original tunes and 3 traditional Irish Folk Favorites. The new self released album was recorded and produced by Rusty Nail in our practice space.

“Boozers, Bastards & Bards” is more than a title; it is a blueprint for the themes and tales that we have created. Songs about drinkers, poets, deadbeat fathers, pirates, lovers, and bars intertwine as our styles and influences seep into the mix.

Rusty Nail formed in December 2005 in St. Louis, as a four piece folk-act that had aspirations of a full rock show sound. As the search began for more musicians to complete our “big-band” experience, Rusty Nail continued writing and performing and building a regional following. Currently Rusty Nail is a seven piece band that is composed of quite a diverse instrumentation and sound. In since we are two-bands in one, our acoustic instruments alone (Mandolin, Dulcimer, Accordion, Banjo, Fiddle and Irish Flute/Tin Whistle give us the Folk inspired background and we mix that with a thunderous rhythm section of Bass and Drums and the dirty crunch of electric guitar that becomes a full force!

Rusty Nail is:

Chad Ross: Dulcimer, Guitar, Banjo, Accordion, Organ, Electric Guitar. Slide Guitar
Pat White: Bass Guitar
Nathan Neff: Electric Guitar
Chris Otto: Irish Flute, Tin whistle and Native American Flute
Trey Garson: Drums; Background vocals
Kelly LaRussa: Violin
Alvan Caby: Guitar, Mandolin, Electric Guitar, and Vocals

Amy Caby: Vocals on “Shamrock Pub”. Background and Vocals on “Yadier Molina”

Our Lady of the Perpetual Orgasm Barefoot Choir: Vocals on “Paper Kisses”
Choir Members: Deanna Brown, Anastasia Swan-Vargas, Amy Caby

Review by Stacey Willmering,
Rusty Nail drives its music home with a wide range of talent. This seven-piece band brings skillful musicianship to the table, and they come prepared to blow you away. Alvan Caby is the lead singer, songwriter, and plays guitar and mandolin masterfully. Chad Ross is a multi-instrumental marvel, who during live shows can switch out instruments with stealth, working the dulcimer, guitar, banjo, accordion and organ. Pat White nails the bass guitar with style, and Nathan Neff plays electric guitar with enthusiasm and contagious energy. Chris Otto, another lyricist, plays the tin whistle and Native American flute, adding a distinguished acoustic element to each song. Trey Garson handles the drums, while Kelly LaRussa plays the violin with both elegance and attitude. The band sometimes features a guest singer, Amy Caby, who is married lead singer Alvan and is also a substitute DJ on 88.1 KDHX.

The band's 2011 release, "Boozers, Bastards, and Bards," is a well-rounded, self-released record with 14 songs, including 11 original tunes and three traditional Irish pieces. The album comprises the expected songs about drinking and Irish tales, but credit is due to the polished, accessible songs about life and the dynamics of relationships.
