There's a great story behind this album.
I'm a long-time Canadian jazz/funk/blues singer and have recorded several albums with my band in those genres. I'm also a preacher's daughter and old hymns and spirituals are my roots.
As life has brought it's inevitable ups and downs, I often retreat to these songs when I'm alone with my piano. They don't come out the way I learned them anymore--now they're flavoured in blue jazz and finished with hope--but they touch the soul.
When I perform these songs, people connect. I shared a vision with producer Roy Salmond to record them and use the proceeds to help people in need. He contacted Incarnation Ministries, who in turn donated all the studio time and production. Abide With Me was born, and 50% of every dollar received from its sale goes to charity.
I love this album and hope you will, too. Religious or not, something in it ministers to people. Makes great background music, too :-)
Love to hear what you think of it,
Ruth
