Album Notes
After producing the album, Eyes on You, "Broken" won several songwriting awards. It also gained the attention of Shane Hawks, producer of the indie movie, Saving Winston. Since the movie revolved around a teen girl, Shane wanted a female voice singing the song, so I re-recorded it with Liesel Eschenbacher Brooks. She did a fabulous job.

I wrote "Broken" for people who are going through heart rending circumstances. When we are brought to our knees by life, it is critical that at some point we look up, away from our circumstances, away from the things pulling us down. For me, it was a comfort to look at Christ on the cross and know that He was broken too, like me. It meant so much to know that He understood everything I was going through. I love Psalm 34 which says, "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears . . . The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit . . . The Lord redeems his servants; no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him." In Christ we find our hope, our strength, and our help.

Here is the first verse and chorus from the song:

Broken, where do you turn when you’ve been broken
How do you go on
Broken, what do you do with shattered shards of clay
Oh, how do you find your way
Through the ruins of your life
How do you survive

Broken, who will understand when you’ve been broken
How can you explain it
Broken, why do you feel pain when your heart has turned to stone
Oh, how do you walk alone
Through the ruins of your life
How do you survive

Oh Lord, I’m falling at your feet
I see you broken
Dying for me
Oh my Redeemer
How you suffered

Oceans of love,

Ruth Wood

I just watched "Saving Winston" and the movie should be view by everyone in America. It gives me hope that we will pull through the current economy and our struggles to save our freedom of speech and choice of religion beliefs. God Bless our Beautiful America
