ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
On Kickland's second folk music release, "Wood Carvings" Kickland explores concepts of desperation and redemption by way of a truly unique experimental folk sound. His melting pot of folk, psychedelic, Eastern and atmospheric music provides a musical environment where melody, mood and uniquely descriptive lyrics thrive. This album features Kickland's hit song, "Homesick" which was featured on the acclaimed FX series, "Justified" and was recorded entirely on analog tape in his home studio in rural South Dakota.

Review of "Wood Carvings" by Ryan Kickland
This is the first Kickland album that I purchased and I'm hooked. I've always been a fan of Cash, Dylan and the rest of the the greats. I'm always super excited to find a new artist that strikes the same chord with songwriting that those old timers do. Wood Carvings is packed full of great lyrics, laugh and cry lyrics, not your typical subject matter, etc. Kickland's voice is perfectly suited for the mood of the album, delicate at times, gritty and ragged at others. There is some superb musicianship on the record as well. There are a couple of instrumental tracks on the album that best demonstrate Kickland's technical abilities. Just listed to the Wood Carver (first track on the album) and you'll see that you're in for a hell of a ride with this record. Highly recommended.
