Album Notes
Legend or Folklore?

Whereas most are drawn to music as a form of expression, Sally Tomato quite adamantly claims music as the whole of her intellect and personality.

Though the rubber band was actually her first instrument, she learned to play piano by ear as early as age two. After a few years of this, they were pretty bruised up and her doctor asked her to start using her fingers instead. Her polyphonic options really opened up but it wasn't quite as fun to watch, so she took up singing, and… oh, the voices…

The often cacophonic sounds of sweet irony drive the band behind this eponymous front woman. Born yesterday and a million years ago, Sally Tomato is the eternal child, possessing the wisdom of ages. She knows there is truth in folklore and fantasy ~ she knows that everyday life stories are interesting because people like to exaggerate. Even if her stories belong to other characters, she has seamlessly melded them into her resplendently-multi-faceted personality.

Sally's accompaniment, Carlos Severe Marcelin on guitar and Eric Flint on drums, arose from the ashes of the late, lamented Portland combo, Silkenseed, and perform in their own right. Using lush, textured guitars, and one of the most intricate drum kits this writer-for-hire has seen, Marcelin and Flint seem uniquely qualified to add background depth to Sally's wild fluctuations between smoky chanteuse and child-like recitation.

In Tarot, the zero card, the fool, is also sometimes symbolized by a child. The zero card implores one to express feelings without reservation, to have fun with life and to begin a journey leading to nothing less than the realization of the universe. Sally Tomato is your supremely capable guide to the voyage of a lifetime.
