Perfect with a Good Bottle of Red!
Samantha's warm, haunting voice wraps itself around you and pulls you into the melody...then surprises you at times. Her lyrics, especially on songs like 'Crayola Marker' and 'White Buffalo' make you want to keep listening, again and again. Her piano and guitar playing are melodic and captivating. An incredible debut album.

Excellent debut by a talented singer-songwriter
Comprising ten self-penned songs, "Good News", Samantha Preis' debut album, is firmly rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition while reflecting the obvious breadth of her musical influences. Samantha Preis is an accomplished musician on both piano and guitar, and she clearly has a love for language that shines through in her thoughtful lyrics. Her jazz-inflected vocals are particularly suited to the enigmatic opener, "Holiday", along with the quirkily titled "Crayola Marker" and "Aristotle and Wine". Particular stand-outs for me are the intriguing "On Boylston", testament to time spent as a student at Boston's Berklee College, and the title track which, with its tumbling piano chords, is reminiscent of a Laura Nyro song - and a rather good one at that. My only quibble is that, at just over 36 minutes, it's a bit short - another couple of tracks would have been nice. That's a minor gripe, though - "Good News" is an album that, with its intelligent (and in places obviously autobiographical) lyrics and tuneful accompaniment, deserves to be listened to closely and attentively. For a debut album, it's rather good!

Something amazing sure did come from her cold hands...
With a voice and musicality well beyond her years Samantha's debut release "Good News" is an album filled with delicate piano, haunting melodies and lyrics of self reflection and hope. She sings with deep emotion and conviction with a mastery of dynamics. Stand out tracks include Crayola Marker, My Cold Hands (written when she was only 15!) Good News and White Buffalo, the production quality is excellent with stunning detail. Samantha also shows her guitar skills on a few tracks which add another dimension to the album. Samantha's talent is undeniable and her songwriting skills on this debut are proof she has what it takes to be a stand out solo artist.
