This is my first 'jazz' CD in 7 years(Aloha Andy and other selections, from 2008,was my last foray into straight-ahead jazz). In the last 7 years, I've turned out 4 CDs, but they've been more of an experimental nature. Decided it was high time to get back to normal(or as close as I get)and do another jazz record.
Jazz Guitar 2015 is a compilation of several sessions: one in St Pete Beach, Florida; another in Decatur, Illinois; and the remainder from my home studio. Musicians are a very mix n' match group by nature, and several of the players on this album have been on other recordings with me. Guitarist Dave Burdick can also be heard on Jazz Guitar Vol 2 and A Walk on the Mild Side(along with bassist Chris Nolte). Pianist Tom Becker played on Spring into Swing, and Spring into Swing Redux.
Of the 10 selections, 3 are standards and 7 are my own compositions. Bub n' Grub is a guitar duet(both me)over rhythm changes(chord changes similar to the song I Got Rhythm); Pauline's Basement is a blues, dedicated to Pauline Cormier, who was a guitar teacher and also provided lodging in a few cases for a few local musicians; The Chich is a slight departure from the straight-ahead menu, and its title was something I apparently used as a little kid of 4 or 5; In a Melatonin is based on In a Mellow Tone; Medwed's Blues is a sort of homage to a classmate from way back when: Bryan Medwed; Airball is an old creation I thought worthy of being on this CD, again a bit of a departure; Samba Kinda Tune was written in 1980-something, and another version can be found on my CD Jazz Guitar Vol2.
Hope you enjoy this new CD!
