Album Notes

SamSara is an Canadian alternative rock band formed in Montreal, Quebec in 1996. The band's original line-up featured lead singer Todd Andrew Pronovost, guitarist Jean-Francois Macé, bassist Francis Roy and percussionist Danny Figueredo. After breaking up in 1998, SamSara reunited in 2010, with Roy declining to participate after the reunion concert at Pirhana Bar on Ste-Catherine's street.
SamSara was one of the bands that participated in giving a reputation to Montreal's "The Plateau" artistic culture of the late 90's.
Formation and SamSara (1996–1998)
SamSara formed out of the remains of guitarist Jean Francois Macé's previous band, The Souls. In mid-1996, Macé was searching for a new vocalist for the faltering The Souls and put an ad in the local community paper when he was contacted by Todd Andrew Pronovost. Pronovost (born 09 November 1970) is an Canadian singer-songwriter and left-wing activist. His music blends elements of folk music, punk rock and protest songs, and his lyrics mostly deal with political, social or romantic themes. Macé and Pronovost bonded over a mutual appreciation for Joy Division and New Model Army and began to practice together with the ex members of the souls at La Cité 2000 close to the Molson Brewery on the side of the St-Laurent River. The new band was dubbed "Samsara" . In 1997 Francis Roy left the band. In its early incarnation, SamSara went through two bass players and featured Stéphane Mallette on bass in 1997-98.
SamSara played regularily in 1997-98 on the Plateau Mont-Royal club scene, primarily at Jailhouse Rock on Mont-Royal.

SamSara are notable for thier Do-it-Yourself ethical stance, manner of business practice and contempt towards the music industry.

Samsara or Sansara (sanskrit, Telugu ) literally meaning "continuous flow", is the cycle of birth, life, death, rebirth or reincarnation within Buddhism, Hinduism, Bön, Jainism, Sikhism, and other Indian religions. The word has its origins in the sramanic traditions of ancient India, and is today used in many modern Indian languages to refer to the physical world, or family, or the universe. In modern parlance, samsara refers to a place, set of objects and possessions, but originally, the word referred to a process of continuous pursuit or flow of life. In accordance with the literal meaning, the word should either refer to a continuous stream of consciousness, or the continuous but random drift of passions, desires, emotions, and experiences.
In most Indian religions, life is not considered to begin with birth and end in death, but as a continuous existence in the present lifetime of the organism and extending beyond. The nature of the actions (karma) committed during the course of each lifetime, (good or ill) determines the future destiny of each being. Samsara is closely linked with the idea of rebirth (or reincarnation), but mainly refers to the condition of life, and the experience of life.
In Buddhism, at the moment of death the consciousness (consciousness of the different senses, such as eye consciousness, ear consciousness etc.), acts as the seed for the spawning of the new consciousness in a new biological structure, conducive to the volitional impulses at the moment of death (which are themselves affected by previous volitional impulses). In other Indian religions, the volitional impulses accrued from the present life are transmitted to a consciousness structure popularly known as the soul, which, after an intermediate period (in Tibetan called the bardo), forms the basis for a new biological structure that will result in rebirth and a new life. This cyclical process ends in the attainment of moksha.
If one lives in extremely evil ways, one is reborn as an animal or other unfortunate being.

Samsara was created in 1996 after a newpaper ad was placed by the three members of The Souls for a new singer. Todd Andrew Pronovost brought his songs and stage presence and Samsara was born.
In 1999 Samsara went into hiatus due to a accumulation of obstacles.
Samsara met up again through Facebook in December 2010 and after 12 years SAMSARA is back!
Bigger and better than ever.

Our band has gone viral simultaneously in many different places including India, Indonesia, Phillipines, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and many other wonderful places.
