ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Samuel Alty is singer-songwriter, guitarist from New Zealand, now living in Poland. His career has led him through many artistic situations including dancing in the Royal Opera House, physical theatrical performances in the Arctic Circle and being a musical rabbit in a touring traditional circus.

His music is about embracing the darker consequences of following the heart and facing the unknown and the deep yearning to know who we truly are. Combining elements of Folk, Flamenco, Arabic, hip-hop and different musical traditions from around the world, to create songs for guitar, voice double bass played by Zbigniew Kozera. Music that aspires to celebrate and remember the wondrous miracle of being alive, in all it’s strange, surreal, challenging and beautiful ways.

ALBUM REVIEW
Hammering Nails into the sky – Samuel Alty

"Singer-songwriter, Samuel Alty’s debut album ‘Hammering nails into the sky’ has finally arrived. What
we have here is a carefully crafted tapestry of songs that offer an unusually rich mixture of musical
styles ranging from folk, choral, pop, beatbox, finger style and African djembe. The album is bursting
with optimism and good vibes while at the same time addressing some important issues such as
being away, questioning values, getting on in life and of course love.

Alty’s strong, yet calm and distinctive vocals keep the music well-balanced and act as the
reaffirming, confident seam that holds this collection of ‘songs with stories’ together. Each song has
its own message while also demonstrating the art of successful, catchy melody making. The musical
approach on this album is to create variety with relatively few instruments – in fact in most songs
there is simply guitar and vocals, but, Alty, being an innovative New Zealander finds interesting ways
to ways to add some neat finishing touches.

‘Hammering Nails into the sky’ is well worth a listen as it represents the true art of song-writing,
innovation and a need to express our inner thoughts and concerns which is something that may be
relevant to all of us. This is a great first album as I think Alty has a lot to offer and there will hopefully
be more to come."
