ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Santiago Jimenez, Jr., "King Accordionista," leads one of the world’s most widely traveled conjuntos, or Tex Mex bands. Santiago was born to the accordion, and in his quest to keep alive the traditional conjunto music, he is also carrying on a family tradition. Santiago''s recording career spans 38 years, during which he has released over 150 singles and 21 albums. Santiago has also received three Grammy Award nominations, most recently in 1994 for his new CD, "Corazon De Piedra." His new Strictly Country Records CD features a shimmering crossection of Santiago''s repertoire of traditional Mexican American music, both instrumental and vocal, at its most soulful and uplifting. The ranchera, polka, charanja, redova including several original pieces, and a half dozen of Don Santiago''s most famous numbers - charged with the electricity of live performance and driven by highly enthusiastic audiences.

SANTIAGO JIMENEZ, JR. accordions, vocals
JESSE CASTILLO bajo sexto, vocals
