ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
About Sarah Jacob

Sarah Jacob was born in England to Indian/Middle Eastern/Jewish parents. Her music is as eclectic and confused as her heritage resulting in passionate melodies and prolific songwriting. Her new CD ‘Damask’, is emotional, philosophical and healing. “I use my music to address difficult topics, like our relationship with nature and others, as well as more personal emotions that every human being experiences. I was very lucky to work with some brilliantly talented local musicians. Extra special thanks to local Jazz artist Max Farber who helped arrange many songs on the album."

About Damask

Damask features: Sarah Jacob - piano, lyrics and vocals, Max Farber – Keyboards, Alison Irvine - violin, Michelle Forman - background vocals, Fabio Patino and Alan Reyna – percussion, Patino Vasquez - guitar and background vocals and John Cameron for arranging and recording Save Me. The CD has 13 songs in total.

Damask
Sarah Jacob's beautiful voice is sultry and soulful. I find her music in that interesting transitional place between folk and jazz. Her voice is reminiscent of Ani DeFranco (especially “Dare I”, “Nature”) and Rickie Lee Jones (“Wounded World”), but with her own definitive and original style with original lyrics and music. I especially love “Deprivation” where I think her unique voice quality is most evident. I highly recommend this unique talent!

I love this album. Sarah's voice is beautiful - Her work rivals Ani Defranco. The lyrics are wonderful. Five stars!

Damask
Brilliant CD! This British lady has a very unique, poetic voice and a British sensibility towards songwriting-real life lyrics with a fun, romantic vision. After a few plays you'll be singing along as you work, potter around the house or smooch with a loved one!
Favourites:-Dare I/ Tapestry/Nature/Passing through/ Epitaph (which includes Steve's song.)

Damask
A few things stand out in my mind when I listen to Sarah Jacob's newest release, Damask. From the very outset, the sound of the violin sets the sultry mood for the CD. Provocative and thoughtful lyrics are wrapped around a subtle pattern of notes played by very accomplished musicians including jazz piano maestro Max Farber, leader of the Max Farber Trio. Although not jazz, this compilation of songs hints at it ever so slightly. I especially like "Dare I". Jacob's voice reels you in like a Greek Siren, but softly, purposeful and seductively. It really entices you to hear the rest of the CD. Then "Wouned World", hits you square in the face with an opening line that shocks you back into reality. I won't spoil it but I promise you, you will say, "WHAT"!? This is a fantastic song, thought out, inward looking, self discovering! A, "Heads Up", to the world. Take your boots off Earth! Sarah Jacob strikes a heart of gold with Damask!! SR

Enticing and evocative. There's a vulnerability in Sarah's approach that seduces me into her private, soulful world. The rhythms are exotic while the lyrical themes are very personal. She sounds like candle light. She sounds like wine. This album that makes you sway with the bass notes and stop what you were doing to focus up on the words, sometimes delicate and sometimes blunt and sometimes revelatory. This music is exquisite.
