Album Notes
Vancouver-based vocalist Sarah Kennedy has been delighting audiences with her performances of jazz standards since 2007. She displays a freedom of emotional expression in an extensive repertoire of swing standards, bossa novas and ballads. Her debut album, “Portrait,” produced by Jennifer Scott, was released in October 2015, and has been played on CBC Hot Air as well as A-Trane radio. Her most recent project, a tribute to the collaborative work of Joni Mitchell and Charles Mingus, was delivered to a sold-out audience at the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society venue, Frankie’s, in December 2015.

Sarah has performed at numerous venues around the Lower Mainland including The Heritage Grill, The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, The Roedde House Museum, Pat’s Pub and Brewhouse, The Harmony Arts Festival, Seven Dining Lounge, The Backstage Lounge, and Frankie’s Italian Kitchen. From July 2014 to April 2015 she traveled to Europe to explore other musical influences and performed at venues in Berlin, Paris and London.

Her musical development began with classical training in piano and voice in early childhood. The discovery of a Dinah Washington CD in her teens led Sarah to gravitate towards jazz vocals, drawing on the influences of Sarah Vaughan, Anita O’Day and Ella Fitzgerald, to name a few. Sarah discovered her love for performing in 2007, after being tricked into an open mic night with a few martinis.
