Album Notes

“Sarah Kervin takes you to the place where your heart is smiling” MuzikReviews

Atlanta born and Brooklyn fancy, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Kervin is a storyteller. Her musical love affair began at age four, playing old Appalachian songs on piano with her dad on the fiddle, all the way to Beijing, China, performing at the 2008 Olympic Pre-Game Ceremonies.

"Into the City" is Sarah's sophomore album - a collection of soulful pop tunes that tells stories of the shared human experience: trying to make it through life without totally screwing everything up. It’s about coming to the city with big dreams and stars in your eyes and pulling yourself back up when it doesn’t turn out like you thought it would. Equal parts Dizzy Gillespie and Sara Bareilles, her music has history, soul and the optimism of a small town girl making her way in the big city.

With strong, soulful vocals, dense textures, and driving rhythms, Sarah’s sound embodies the depth of self-exploration, discovery, and independence. Her music is influenced by the complex harmonies of jazz, the inspired messiness of gospel, the melancholy passion of the blues, and the frankness and openness of story-telling.
