Album Notes
Songwriter/Producer/Engineer and Mixer Sarah Shafey has created something unique in her hometown of Toronto that has her working with indie musicians from all walks of life. She started out by studying classical piano at the Royal Conservatory for nine years and continued on to take up the guitar, harmonica, vocals, song-writing, engineering, and producing, "the second I downloaded my first demo of Fruity Loops my mind opened up into new dimensions." She quickly became hungry to learn more about computer programs and how to infuse new technology with classic live instrumentation.

Shafey spent her life living across the globe and this is clearly evident in her song-writing and production. She flawlessly takes her love of all genres and fuses them together to create her own sound.

Her first self-titled demo was released on Feb 4th/2007. It is an infusion of rich electronic and pop textures with conscious lyrics that stem from her love for politically savvy music and artists such as Ani Difranco, Ben Harper, Cat Stevens, Radiohead, and Zero 7.

What to expect in 2008, a full length album that displays her production and song-writing skills. It truly intertwines sounds from jazz, hip-hop, rock, electronic you name it. "It's been an interesting trip recording this because it first started off as what I thought would be a new demo of sorts. That quickly turned into a new CD. I figured, if Im having this much fun why stop now. I have had the luxury of meeting amazing people while living in Toronto and we have created a community and within that community we share our talents for a good time. This album features some amazing people and I am quite excited about that." The CD "Tiny Music Box" will be released digitally on Dec 15th 2008.

Sarah also currently helps manage a collective of talented musicians in Toronto called “GoodSoundsGood” who can be seen performing the first Tuesday of every month at The Supermarket. Sarah continues to catch peoples ears in all genres so stay tuned, Sarah Shafey is a Canadian musician that you don’t want to miss.

The influences of Edith Piaf, Norah Jones, Danny Elfman, and Zero 7 can all be heard in the piano-driven chamber pop on "Tiny Music Box." But Sarah Shafey has made something all her own, a sophisticated, intricately orchestrated album of lush tunes and truly professional production. Her smoky, sultry singing, whether in French or English, whether full-voiced or whispery, has an immediate, emotive quality. And when she layers that voice to create hazy walls of glacial harmonies, the creepy effect will give you shivers. This artist should be commended for making a modern vaudeville album with sprinklings of jazz, folk, chamber pop, and classical.
