ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Satin Nickel's eponymous debut EP is a striking introduction to the Brooklyn-based quartet. Recorded in the spring of 2018 with the help of Brooklyn Sound Lab's Ray Archie, Satin Nickel is an engaging foray into Americana detailing love, loss, and an entanglement with the Devil himself.

Reflecting its creation in a Clinton Hill basement, intimacy and vulnerability permeate Satin Nickel's sound. Drawing on disparate elements of ambient, indie-rock, and folk, the songs range between rollicking bluegrass aggression that recalls the Punch Brothers, to slower, reflective folk-rock remniscent of Joni Mitchell and Abigail Washburn. Alternating lead vocalists Morgan Hollingsworth and Samantha Aneson are supported by cellist Ariana Karp, whose accompaniment furthers the plaintive mood of the album, and drummer Nikola Balać. The resulting effort is at once self-assured and wistful, imbuing the listener with the emotional imagery of an unplanned, but ultimately fulfilling road trip through America.
