Album Notes
"This is a very unique album and style of music. There are elements here that blend eras and genres of songwriting, especially in contemporary and religious music … the dedication to the spiritual presence sung to is a powerful and passionate experience. Songs are uplifting and that is a great dynamic in this music. As an outsider to this spiritual community, there is a lot I don’t understand." - D. Grant.

So, to help understand the background of this album please read on – I will try my best to explain! This album has been a life-long dream of mine to share the experiences of my heart whilst on the journey of my soul to love God.

I grew up as a Sikh and fell in love with the music - Gurbani Kirtan, the blessed poetry of the Indian Guru's and saints from centuries ago. The timeless Truth contained within the Divine Word still appeals to any soul-bride in search of union with the Eternal Husband.

It was always my desire to be able to take those feelings of immense love and humbleness experienced in meditation to a wider audience, to use English lyrics and contemporary music. The lyrics have been written over three decades, sometimes at the lowest point when I was calling upon God, sometimes at the highest point when I felt His love and blessings. Other times when I was seeking a Guru and then having found one surrendering and overcoming doubts and the tests of ego and on to deep feelings of love and experiencing the light and love within.

The main message is of hope, that even through our darkest time to keep the faith in Truth and the Divine Light will come, first as our outer Guru who blesses us with God's Name, "Sat Naam" like one candle lights another. Then when we meditate upon "Sat Naam" it burns away all our darkness and manifests as Divine Light; our Inner Guru. The songs are for all sincere Truth-seekers.

It has been an incredible journey to turn these heartfelt lyrics into songs. Hence, this project has been a collaboration with three very talented musicians:

1) my daughter's amazingly gifted piano teacher Kirsty Morris-Selley [ keylicious.co.uk ] who composed and performed the music for: Be A Flower, Call Out His Name, Falling In Love, Wherever I Go and On The Way Of Truth;

2) the heartfelt singing of the very talented Nicole Gose [ nicolegose.com ] who sung on all of the tracks and also composed: O My Mind, Eternal Dance, Sweet Surrender, Without You, Guru Himself, Everlasting Friend and You.

3) Eric Toots who played guitar on Eternal Dance and Without You.

I started this project in 2010 when I asked Baba Ji for the blessing to be able to write songs. I felt I had lost the connection to my heart and creativity. I used to write as a teenager when I was going through a lot of turmoil which I would express in writing. But over the years had lost the connection and just felt like a dead log. He smiled, waved his hand and blessed me. After that I really committed myself to my daily meditation [Simran], 2.5 hours every morning of loving devotional worship [Bhagti] on reciting the blessed "Sat Naam" mantra.

Many transforming experiences happened over the next six months. Firstly, to get through the darkness [Maya] of my own mind the 5 demons of anger, greed, selfish attachment, pride and lust were overcome. Then doubts in my Guru and fears, anxieties and worries were overcome. Taking responsibility for all the bad deeds I had done and asking for forgiveness cleared my past karma and lightened my load. Often, I would feel like I am free, and have dreams where I would be flying. Other times listening to Gurbani Kirtan, so many tears would be flowing, the soul longing to go home.

As the months progressed I was meditating on "Sat Naam" humbly and lovingly cherishing my Guru's feet in my heart centre and felt like I merged into them and my whole body filled with divine energy [Amrit] and my arms raised up welcoming the Inner Guru, "Sat Naam - the One Named Truth" into my heart. I felt like the bride dancing in joy in front of her Husband, Truth itself.

The lyrics were composed over this time 2010-2012 as well as scouring through my diaries for the previous 30 years. I tried a few different composers but nothing sounded quite right. Finally, finding Kirsty and Nicole they took the bare-bone lyrics, fleshed them out with music and vocals and brought them to life from 2013-2015. Each song would take a few months of online collaboration. Some songs had multiple versions which were discarded as well as other songs that didn't quite make the final album.

The mantra "Sat Naam" (Truth is the Name) is repeated often in every song. The songs are a springboard to launch the listener into losing them self into the name of God. This will appeal to listeners who enjoy mantra meditation with loving devotional worship.

I would suggest listening to the songs quietly with your eyes closed as part of your meditation and with blessings may you feel the love and light of the Divine. The songs are shared in the spirit of selfless service. Please download and share with others, I would love to hear your feedback, email me. Even if one song helped uplift even one person, I will be happy that this was all worthwhile. It may not have changed the world, but it will have changed the world for that one.

Finally, endless thanks to God and Guru and Sangat who have blessed this project and supported it financially.

Bless you, stay in peace.
