Gaia Shabad
“When the earth is in distress, it attunes itself with love and sends out a prayer.” Guru Amar Das Ji,
© translated by Ek Ong Kaar Kaur Khalsa

I invite you to sing this shabad and offer this prayer, for the the earth and the heavens, to heal our planet and heal ourselves.

Shakti Mantra: Ek Ong Kaar Sat Naam Siree Waahe Guroo
The DNA of our practice as Kundalini Yogis, this mantra elevates the psyche and takes you into your own power.
Down on Me/I-aanrhee-ai Shabad Recitation
This unique track combines the Victory Song for Women as recited by Gurunam Kaur Khalsa with a traditional Spiritual, once covered by Janis Joplin. Enjoy!
Jammee-aa Poot Bhagat Govind Kaa/Govinda Govinda Govinda
Practiced in the first 120 days of pregnancy to call the soul of a saint or a giver into the world.
Poota Maataa Kee Aasees
The mother’s blessing. Believed to be the only shabad in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib composed by a woman, Bibi Bani, Guru Arjan’s mother; this prayer is said to cover the life of the child. A mother’s prayer is the most powerful prayer in the world, so recite this shabad to bless your children and to heal yourself.

Guru Gayatri Mantra
“The woman who sings the Guru Gayatri gains both Worldy and Heavenly joy.” –Yogi Bhajan, from Furmaan Khalsa

Gobinday Mukanday
Udaaray Apaaray
Hariang Kariang
Nirnaamay Akaamay

“There are three things which work for you: Sopurkh, Bhand Jamee-ai and the basic root in which woman becomes woman, which is Ekaa Maa-ee Jugat Viaa-ee [the 30th Pauree]. Those three things are your totalities and this is your reality.”
© The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan, June 29, 1988

Sopurkh Recitation
From Rehiraas, this recitation calls the Infinite God into being; traditionally recited 11 times per day by women to bless the men in their lives with the infinite identity of the One.
Bhand Jammee—ai
Guru Naanak’s Praise of Woman, according to Yogi Bhajan, this shabad removes the inner conflict from the woman (© The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan, July 15, 1987) and Mother phobia in the man.

30th Pauree: Ekaa maa-ee jugat viaa-ee
From Japji, this is the basic description of the woman and her power. Meditate on these lines in order to understand your core identity as a woman.

To Janis Joplin and all the “ugly” girls whose creativity lights up the world!
To Sewa Singh Khalsa, who has shown me the way of the graceful woman, time after time after time.
To Yogi Bhajan, whose teachings inspire this album from beginning to end.
Thanks and Praise
Praises go to my mother, Maxine Huddleston, for teaching me what personal dignity and self-worth look like, even though it took me 40 years to get it! Thanks to my mother-in-law, Cricket Luellen, who encouraged me to stand up for myself from the moment I met her; I’ll never forget that. Many thanks for her generous gift which helped manifest this collection. Thanks to Sangeet Kaur Khalsa for her mentorship and guidance in helping me to pronounce these sophisticated sounds as accurately as possible. All mistakes are my own.
Thanks and praise to Jon Gagan for his continued collaboration with me; most of the magic on this album is due to his meticulous and infinitely creative ear. And major props to JQ Whitcomb for the amazing brass arrangements. Thanks so much! Ditta at PranaProjects created another beautiful cover; thank you for your friendship.
To all the amazing musicians who showed up for this project—thank you! I couldn’t do this without your love for music, your skill, and your innovation and expertise: Jon Gagan on bass, electric guitar, keyboards and Rhodes, Chris Ishee on piano, Andres Cantisani on acoustic and electric guitar, Har Dev Singh on guitar, Michael Chavez on drums, Robbie Rothschild on udu, djembe and percussion, JQ Whitcomb on trumpet, Ben Finberg on trombone, Sat Purkh on vocals and harmonium and Abhai Raj on vocals.
And finally, thanks to my husband, Abhai Raj Singh, whose devotion to the Naam is unwavering and whose support I have come to depend on more and more each day. Thank you for your kindness and your embodiment of the Divine Masculine. These songs are as much yours as mine. Today and always, I am yours, Sat Purkh.
