Album Notes
SAXIT! Saxophone quartet is a musical project which came into being in late 2011. The musicians involved all shared two common interests, love of playing the saxophone and the artistic growth in playing and performing in an ensemble without a traditional rhythm section.

While the group performs predominately original music, jazz standards and covers are performed as well to strike a balance with its audiences. Jazz is the primary focus but the group has explored other sub genres within jazz and work at incorporating many different musical influences to create music which is honest and explores the sonic capabilities of the saxophone.

SAXIT is vibrant, sometimes brash but also very sophisticated in their musical output and has a vision to encourage and spread the appreciation and support of original music in South Africa. SAXIT does not utilise a rhythm section, only four saxophones which demonstrates in their musical development that each member has developed their own sense of internal rhythm which further translates into their own personal understanding of themselves and each other.

To date, SAXIT! has headlined at a number of venues and festivals including Infecting the City Public Arts Festival, Tulbagh Spring Arts Festival, Cape Town Fringe Festival, the National Arts Festival Grahamstown, Oude Libertas Summer Concert Series and performing on top of Table Mountain. They are also excited to release their debut EP in September.

SAXIT! are:

Joel Benjamin – Soprano/Alto sax
Jade de Waal – Alto sax
Simon Bates – Tenor sax
Gareth Harvey – Baritone sax
