Album Notes
Beth Scalet is a consummate song stylist, a gifted songwriter, and a talented instrumentalist on both guitar and harmonica. In 2005 she was nominated for induction into the Kansas Music Fall of Fame. She's been nominated as Best Folk Performer in Kansas City. Her original songs have received numerous awards, including several from the Billboard Song Contest, along with the American Song Festival and the Denver Music Fair.

"Wonderful to hear a female really capture this traditional delta blues genre. Well done. I love your harmonica work, very unique, expressive and passionate. Your vocal work has the same elements. I love the lyrics, with the traditional form and yet fresh approaches to the style." --TAXI Review

"I love the line 'if I ever get to heaven, I'll have the blues in paradise'. Fun overall ride." -- TAXI Review

"This is a gem of an album, great acoustic guitar, great blues songs, and phenomenal blues voice. Her version of St. James Infirmary (one of the greatest blues songs ever (see my list Great Versions of the Song "St. James Infirmary" January 2, 2007)) is absolutely smokin'! and her Come Back Baby stacks right up there with Bonnie Raitt's, Dave Van Ronk's, Hot Tuna's and John Lee Hooker's. She has a slightly husky and yet honeyed voice, plays a mean guitar, and is just a pleasure to listen to. By the way, this album has three songs not included on the original CD, and they are terrific. This is a great blues album." -- Michael Z. Jody "Psychoanalyst, amateur musicologist, writer" (NYC & East Hampton, NY United States), writing on

"I remember the first time I heard St. James Infirmary. I must have been seven or eight. The TV was on one and someone, I swear it was Billie Holliday, came on and sang 'St. James' and I was blown away. I told myself right at that moment, 'That's what I want to do.' Something about the pain and emotion in it just reached in and grabbed me." -- Beth Scalet

Powerful songs with amazing vocals.
This CD has very powerful vocals, amazing tracks that keep you bluesin and you want more.

If you're a Scalet fan, don't miss this one.
I loved the original "Blues in Paradise" CD since the moment I heard it. Beth certainly has the voice AND the soul for some great blues! While my personal favorites of her originals have always included the title cut and Moped, I have to say that the anniversary edition includes one of the best versions of "Guilty" I've ever heard. Way to go!
