ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Known for rowdy flatpick guitar, strong mountain-flavored vocals, and wildly poetic lyrics, Scott is a popular performer in the Virginia and Washington DC areas. His music falls right in with the great Appalachian and Americana acoustic acts from recent Virginia vintage, such as Trent Wagler and the Steel Wheels and the Honey Dewdrops.

Scott performs regularly as a solo act, and in a duo with old-time fiddler Marcy Cochran (Dead Men's Hollow). He also plays fiddle with Feel The Wag, a string band performing in Appalachian and New England traditions. Scott is the founder of New Trail Coaching, a service helping people succeed with their creative and artistic work.

Innfluences on this CD include Josh Ritter, John Hartford, Gillian Welch, Suzanne Vega, Danny Schmidt, and Tom Waits.

This CD wasRecorded as totally acoustic solo, duo, and trio arrangements. It features Marcy Cochran on old-time fiddle, Al Bernier on mandolin, and blues-man Harny on slide guitar, harmonica, and harmony vocals. Scott performs lead vocals, flatpick and fingerstyle guitar, mandolin, uke, and fiddle.

The tracks were recorded at Cabin Studios in Leesburg VA, engineered by Les Thompson (founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band).

1 Lovin' Mama: birds & bees love song with rocking fiddle by Marcy
2 Dry Town: spooky song about the coldest town you ever saw
3 Reuben & Sandy: Al and I play this guitar/mando duo on Charlie Hall's great instrumental honoring two golden retrievers
4 Nickels & Dimes: tribute to hard-working women, great for Labor Day and women's topics
5 Stranger In The Rain: how hard it is to connect with others, some fancy flatpicking
6 Sweet By & By: mixed-up sort-of prayer, mixing gospel phrases with Arabic sayings
7 Gaspe Reel: Marcy and I on an old-time fiddle duet
8 Breathless: Bluesy love at first sight with as many cliches as I could fit in, great harmony vocal by Harny
9 Steel Guitar: What we're taught and not taught in school
10 Who Knows: About Tyler, a foster kid. How many songs do you know about foster kids?
11 Get Myself Together: Looking for answers, thinking about life, watching people
