"Recently someone asked me what my music sounds like, I said: 'A bluesy, jazz-funk non-terrestrial vehicle that transcends multiple pop/rock universes'. Actually, I said something totally different, but I had just taken a bite of some cake, so..."

Album Notes
"... I am blown away by the CD... McDavid’s use of chord changes and progressions mirror several Steely Dan songs... A sophisticated upbeat offering of music & lyrics that kept me wanting more. I added it to my list of favorites after one listen.”

“After listening to Scott McDavid's latest release “The View From Here”, one can only say that McDavid is at the very least a master craftsman. I've often felt that in music, it's not just the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play, and saying this, Scott's cd is tightly written, played and produced, with just the right amount of musical content. Nothing is overplayed, or boring. McDavid competently takes on the role of "one man band" performing all the instruments here, with the exception of some guitar overdubs, and seamlessly puts all the pieces of the puzzle in the proper places. In this day and age of computer desktop production and auto-tune, it's a "performance" that shows up on this disc. By saying that, minimal processing is involved because McDavid is just that good of a player/performer. It's rare today to hear a performance that still contains the subtle nuances of dynamics and emotion. More often than not, musicians nowadays will lock up straight to a metronome and bash out four to the bar, but McDavid performs organically, and keeps the human element of his music intact. The final number on the disc "The Specialist" is one that features a human drummer, instead of programmed drums, and the track shines... from top to bottom this is an exemplary work from keyboardist, producer, writer and performer Scott McDavid.”

The View From Here is breathtaking
Scott has done a brilliant job on this project, from writing to production, from playing and arranging to singing! I see others compare it to Steely Dan, and I get that, but for me personally it is in a more accessible vein - nothing against Steely Dan mind you, but this is more like Robben Ford without the guitar. The many layers and nuances are intricate and never over-done. Very listenable - I plan to wear it out!
