Album Notes
SoMAntra™ is a double-CD by Scott and Shanti Medina engineered by three-time Grammy-winning producer Tom Wasinger with over 150 minutes of ecstatic chants, sacred sound meditations, and embodied practices empowering the innate mind/body wisdom to self-regulate the nervous system.  This unique collection of original chants, 45 minutes of guided soundscape meditations and embodiment practices from wisdom-traditions around the globe take the listener on a journey into the current moment of abiding self-realization.

These simple body intelligence practices support the practitioner in mitigating stress and resolving chronic pain as they experience applicable and transformative tools to self-regulate the nervous system through mantra (chanting), mudra (ancient symbolic hand gesture energy seals), sacred sound, and guided meditation.
SoMAntra™ is the experience where SOMA (body) and MANTRA (sacred sound incantation or invocation) are ONE vibration.

Scott and Shanti bio:
Scott and Shanti Medina are a dynamic husband-and-wife duo from Boulder, CO .  Their very popular sacred sound workshops, ecstatic community kirtans, and inspiring retreats offer a sweet and deep dive into the vibration where the soma, or body, and mantra are One.  They recently released their double-CD project SoMAntra®.  The CD is a collection of original chants from wisdom-traditions around the globe along with embodied yoga therapy practices to self-regulate the nervous system and ignite the innate wisdom.  To find out more, please visit:

Here's Scott's notes on the chants on the First CD:

1 - Gam Gam Ganesha - This chant has been waiting to be recorded for several years since being created. I’ve so looked forward to putting it down on “tape”, and this recorded arrangement is one I’ve fantasized over for a long time; it’s tremendously rewarding to have that vision realized.

2 - Gayatri Mantra - Written earlier in 2014, Shanti had requested a new chant for the Gayatri Mantra and helped to guide the structure of what came through. This version is always very powerful to offer in a group setting, especially if preceded by a SoMAntra meditation. On this version we are blessed with Sandra Wong’s soaring and emotive violin, taking the chant even deeper.

3 - Maha SoMAntra - Possibly my favorite chant on the album. The chord progression of the slow section always kills me; live it is deliriously intoxicating with everyone singing. The mix of upbeat joyous danceable Krishna energy is the divine balance to the longing of the slower section. Even the joke of the title reflects Krishna’s playful side. Sheela’s flute on here often brings me to tears, the subtlety of the notes in the Bansuri flute lights the soul on fire.

4 - Jai Jai Sita Ram - One of our live favorites for over a decade now, this new version is propelled by Gayan’s drum kit and Joe’s driving Hammond organ playing. Hare Hare!

5 - Shiva in 5 - Another one of my favorite newer chants to record, I totally love this homage to the fierceness, compassion and strength of Shiva. This has the most intense rock moments on the album with an incendiary guitar solo from Eyal Rivlin, but also soothing moments with Tom’s eerie Tibetan bowl samples. A pop-structured chant in a time signature of 5, ready to take the radio by storm! :0 )

6 - Hey Ma Durga - Originally recorded on my first Kirtan album “Bolo”, this version opens with a very sweet call to the Mother, then leading into an uptempo African rhythm section which supports the call and response to impart the love and devotion to the feminine. Also featuring Tom Wasinger on lap steel and a unique hammered dulcimer instrument called the Cimbalom.

7 - Jai Jai Hanuman - Sheela’s flute returns on this upbeat ode to the selfless servant of the One - Hanuman. Our tempo gets faster and faster just like at our live kirtans, building our intensity and devotion.

8 - Mahadev Shambo - Sandra’s haunting Nyckelharpa playing is the centerpiece for this meditative call and response epic, supported by hand drums and Robert’s hypnotic bass playing. There’s nothing else quite like this one on the album, enjoy!

9 - Goddess Lullaby - I really love this arrangement, recorded as a duet with Shanti and me. One of our favorite ways to close an evening of kirtan. Eyal’s tasty soloing towards the end with the harmony vocals always sends me.

10 - Loka Samasta - Shanti and I wrote this piece while on a kirtan tour, and the simplicity of the arrangement and melody have a way of staying in your head for days. Here we have Sheela’s flute and Eyal’s guitar to further the love and blessings of this prayer. If kirtan chants made the Top 10 on radio, I think this would be a contender!
