ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ex-Rockapella star Sean Altman is "tuneful and sharply witty" (Los Angeles Times) and "bawdy with a wicked modern streak" (Washington Post), combining "the tunefulness of the Beatles and the spot-on wit of Tom Lehrer" (Boston Globe). Altman founded Rockapella and led that group through its heyday years on the Emmy-winning PBS-TV series "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?", for which Altman co-wrote the famous theme song. After defecting from Rockapella and releasing his solo debut seanDEMOnium (1997), Altman assembled a backup band and played NYC rock clubs for two years as "Sean Altman & His Full Muscular Band". The Village Voice called him "an absurdly talented performer... a power-pop mensch and an aspiring teen cult leader." In 2002 Altman released the album alt.mania, about which Hits Magazine wrote "This record rocks....Rockapella mastermind, internet entrepreneur and divorcé Altman tells barbed, musically diverse tales of romantic misadventures....A dark, funny, resilient, postmodern concept album about love and loss." The album features 15 originals and Sean’s signature angst gift-wrapped as pop confection. Produced by reclusive pop genius Billy Straus, alt.mania’s highlights include Dick About Me, Daisy Simone, More In Hate With You, The Notion, and Unhappy Anniversary — Sean’s ode to divorce that pop starlet Vitamin C covered on her platinum Elektra debut. Guests include Jian Ghomeshi of Moxy Fruvous (the co-written duet Town No More), acclaimed violinist Deni Bonet and Elliott Kerman (ex-Rockapella). To augment this banquet of confessional pop (Too Old & Too Ugly indeed), Sean has peppered alt.mania with a dozen other bits of palate-cleansing sonic mayhem, yielding a wondrous feast for the ears and soul.
