ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
‘Paris Rain Dances’ is the fruit of a 12-month recording project. Our first album, 'On Our Own' has a smoother groove, and we wanted 'Paris Rain Dances' to be more visceral, quirkier, with more sound. 'Paris Rain Dances' was recorded on a houseboat on the Seine river right outside of Paris, France. I remember staring into the dark river at late hours with headphones blaring to get the temperature of what we'd just recorded. It was an intense creative experience and there were several times when we thought we were almost finished, only to turn the corner and see a long road ahead of us. We wanted to finish the album with a big push, one last creative blast, and that's exactly what happened.

Paris Rain Dances

Dancing in the Rain
This eclectic and blues/roots-driven second album from this Paris-based duo offers a menu full of surprises and a set of tunes that will have your feet tapping more than the Paris rain on the windowsill.

The delightful bluesy shuffle of the opening track, “In the Beginning,” starts off this collection well and sets the tone for the whole CD. Funky guitar riffs punctuated by liquid intrusions of spacey keyboards, well crafted melodies with exquisite backup vocals, and choruses with catchy pop sensibilities. Between some of the songs are incursions of electronic and ambient sculpture, which hold together the more structured tunes like a cosmic glue.

Some tunes offer an atmospheric take on songwriting such as the exquisite keyboard and vocal-based “La-bas”, songs which perfectly balance the grittier blues/pop numbers. Others, such as “Goin Back again” put the listener in a chill zone with a tune that is a perfect pop concoction. And who could resist the pulsing drive of “I Wanna Ride” which puts a smile on your face. Songs such as “Just One Thing” have space and balance in a carefully layered tune that, while sounding sweet as an angel, holds in its lyrics a tale of uncertainty and loss. The album closes on a slide guitar roots number with grit and soul. This CD is a must-have in your collection, an experience that gets better with each listen.
