Album Notes
From the White Mountains of New England emerges Senayit, a singer/songwriter who guides her listeners on an intimate journey by awakening a tribal and grounding energy. Senayit was born to create a distinctive and far-reaching life and sound. Raised in New York City, she grew up with a melting pot of influential music: Ethiopian music from her father’s heritage, traditional Chinese and Indian music from her mother’s travels, Haitian music by way of her bilingual school, 80s pop from the neighborhood, classical music from ballet class, and Indonesian gamelan music during college.

On her February 7, 2012 release, “Of Body,” Senayit is accompanied by Michael Ramirez on bass and Isaac Luxon on percussion. Named “Of Body” because of its sensuous and sometimes daring construct, the new album marks Senayit’s seventh release and was written after her father’s death in 2009. It was recorded live and produced in Olympia, WA at DreamKitchen Studios with Carl Dexter.

Senayit envelopes you to the point of a visceral, physical connection. It is not just music for your soul but something that is happening to you, around you, and never quite leaves you.
