Another Day In My Life

by Seth Turner

Imagine an early Garth Brooks sound. Now imagine a Waylon Jennings attitude. If you can put those together, then you can get an idea of what Seth Turner's music is. Traditional, but still just a bit on the edgy side. Rodeo life, love and real life.

Album Notes
You will find Seth's roots in Custer, South Dakota. At the ripe age of sixteen, Seth was approached by his high school choir teacher to audition for a new music show opening that summer. After all three partners agreed, Seth, was hired to sing for, Hillbilly Heaven, for the summer months of the Black Hills' tourist season. After the crowd reaction to his first performance, he knew immediately that he had found his niche in life and would pursue country music as a career.

At age nineteen, Seth moved to Las Vegas to start a band to better learn how to perform for live audiences. He would find that forming a band and keeping one together would be an entirely difficult task; unfortunately his first venture with a band was unsuccessful. Seth decided to seek other avenues of discovery and focus on his songwriting abilities, hoping that one day he would be "In the right place, at the right time." Fueled by an undying desire to perform, he has never lost the drive to succeed. Over his years in Vegas, he has taken advantage of every opportunity he has had to sing. Many nights were spent at local jam sessions, some were performing in competitions, he has many times been asked to sit in and sing with bands playing in and around the city as well. Seth will say that one of the highlights of his performing days was a night back in 1995. A friend had brought a special guest in to the club where Seth was performing to listen to him. It was Jeff Cook, the lead guitar/fiddle player for Alabama. Seth was honored when Jeff asked if he could come and sit in with him for awhile, he stayed all night. Always being appreciative of unforgettable moments in life, Seth took that experience and used it to add to the fire burning inside him, always knowing that one day he would have his turn on the stage, finally being able to entertain fans, always striving to please them.

Seth has been found in venues such as Gilley's Las Vegas inside the Frontier Hotel Casino on the famous Las Vegas Boulevard and inside the Gold Coast Hotel Casino in December during the National Finals Rodeo. People have said that Seth "comes to life" while on the stage. Seth will say that he is "at his best behind a microphone and his guitar." He is a natural and energetic performer that can only be appreciated while viewing his performances in person. He sings with emotion carried by a strong voice with an excellent range. His repertoire includes artists from Merle Haggard to Dwight Yoakam and Lefty Frizzell to Alan Jackson. His roots are deeply embedded to what country music is, story telling. He has always stayed true to them as well, preferring to sing what he knows to be traditional. He is as traditional as they come. The proof of this is in the style of his songwriting.

Seth has used many influences from life situations to draw inspiration from. Whether the song is a ballad, waltz, two-step, or blow the roof off swing, you can bet that Seth has one way or another lived that song before he wrote it. Having now well over 70 songs under his belt, you will be hard pressed to find one that isn't country. During live performances, it has been requested by audiences in attendance that Seth sing his originals. You will never fail to see the appreciation in his eyes when those requests are made. He has also been asked, in what he holds in the highest of honors, to write and sing songs for the weddings of his friends and acquaintances. Many who have listened know his songs by heart. Those who do always sing them as they travel down the road, while showering, or while dancing with their loved ones. I know this to be true because I'm one of them. Always having more of a traditional country feel, Seth Turner is a performer with a style that seems to be making its way back to prominence in the industry.

"Another Day In My Life" CD review from
The Bottom Line
From The editor:
In this ever-changing world one would think that the traditional cowboy is a thing of the past, just a memory, then along comes Seth, a true cowboy in every sense of the word right down to his pressed Wrangler Jeans.
Seth is true to himself, his music, his friends, and most of all his family. He has an instilled integrity that just can't be bought, this integrity shows thru in every aspect of his life.
I really enjoyed "Another Day In My Life." There are drinking songs, loving and losing songs, and songs of rodeo and ranch life. Seth reminds me a lot of Chris LeDoux when he was first starting out as a singer. He has a mixture of a smooth ballads and rowdy honky-tonk. Among my favorite songs are "A Cowboy's Song" and "Every Time I Get On." I was very pleasantly surprised at just how much I enjoyed this cd. I have been a fan of Seth' for quite awhile now, but "Another Day In My Life" made me more of a fan. A bonus track, "Time Well Spent" was a last minute addition to this album. This ballad was a great addition and a pleasent surprise. If you enjoy rodeo honky-tone music, then this is the cd for you. Seth is making sure that country music does not die anytime soon

Seth Turner is another talented artist who came to my attention during the second season of "Nashville Star". Although the CD I received isn't the finished product, it's evident that this guy's got a lot to offer to the country music industry. The songs are all originals, and with nothing but a guitar to accompany the vocals, Seth's voice and lyrics shine through even more.
Without asking, I'd guess that Seth's influences include Garth Brooks and George Strait, with a little Merle Haggard and Chris LeDoux thrown in, and you can hear traces of each in his voice and phrasing. I'm eager to hear the finished product, because I think with a little fine-tuning in post-production, "Another Day In My Life" will be a very popular CD among country music fans.
My favorite tracks include "Every Time I Get On" (not many people write rodeo songs anymore), "Another Day In My Life", which offers a fresh look at life after being left, "Settlin' In To Settle Down Again", a tale of two people jaded about love but willing - and wanting - to find the real thing, and "Cheyenne", an up-tempo story about a love in a honky tonk.
Seth's got a good, clean vocal style and a talent for writing songs that the average person can relate to. While Nevada's a long way from Nashville, I'd say that "Another Day In My Life" is a giant step on the road to Music City.

By Rikk Matheson Rikks Reviews
I hear people asking today from time to time "Whatever Happened to REAL Country Music ?" and to be honest my thoughts were there for a while too before I started following the independent music scene. The truth of the matter today is that folks are just getting lazy, they don't search for good music they wait at times for it to be force fed to them by radio and video, and then they think that's all there is, I call that contempt before investigation. Simply because music doesn't make it to the airwaves doesn't mean it ain't good. It's just undiscovered and unsigned.
Seth Turner is another of the Nashville Star"ry" eyed hopefuls that tried out for the USA Network's Nashville Star. What I found in Seth Turner is raw country talent, I have to say raw for the simple reason I am listening to a demo CD full of tracks, and not the finished product. Seth has a talent for writing songs for the common man that anyone that has done their share of hurtin', cheatin', drinkin', lovin', leavin', or hurtin' (I know I said Hurtin' Twice..... now thrice). What it gives me a chance to hear are some true country songs that although they draw on common Country Music themes, they remain new and inventive.
12 tracks that I must say I have enjoyed, there is not one song that I don't hear some potential in, and that leaves the listener hankering for the finished product. I am hearing the stripped down version of the tracks, and though they have a great song sound, I find myself wondering how much better some of tracks will be when they add more than just the vocal with guitar accompaniment. So the drawback as I see it also holds part of the appeal to me as I get to to hear what Seth Turner really sounds like.
Seth Turner, a Nevada resident, has a classic country voice that blends as much Garth and Haggard as it does Yoakam, Keith Whitley and John Conlee. I can feel that Seth Turner is going to be a force in Country Music, not only are his vocals strong, but he wrote all the songs here, and there is no filler. They may not all be hits, but they all have their individual appeal and would make for a great CD. Another Day In My Life includes some real winners, and we can relate to the subject matter. "Tied One A Little Too Tight" which tells of waking up after a hard night hittin' the booze, then "Give Me Something In A Long Neck" shows how you got there in the first place. He can show his tender side too on haunting numbers like "Ain't Necessarily Good" and "The Fire." Seth Turner is another country star to watch for on the horizon.

"Rikk's Reviews" review of the finished product "Another Day In My Life"
Seth Turner's CD is finally available. Since reviewing Seth Turner's Demo CD, this is one that I was anxiously awaiting. There's no letdown here folks, not at all. So, while listening you can hear obvious influences, but then it takes a twist, so instead of guessing, I asked Seth about his influences..... "My musical influences come from a variety of artists ranging from Merle Haggard and Lefty Frizzel to Dwight Yoakam and David Ball to George Strait and Chris LeDoux. I was also raised on classic Rock and Roll; Bob Seger, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and CCR to name a few. To be honest, I'm not sure what really comes with all of those influences, but I'd sure love for someone to tell me!"
The influences are evident with vocals that show tinges of Dwight Yoakam and Garth Brooks while remaining original. Last year in Nashville, Seth Turner performed at the French Quarter cafe "Songwriters Round", after his performance one guy in the crowd yells "Watch out Garth Brooks".... That is a start, but Seth doesn't copy anyone, he has a unique style that does nod to some greats, but isn't that what it's about? Seth Turner is an honest country singer, and songwriter that can give you chills, give you an honest-to-god cry in your beer number, or give you a Saturday night belly-buster with some of his more humorous numbers.
You really do get the full gambit, memories of Country Music's colored past run through the veins of this young upstart. Seth Turner keeps the spirit alive, whether it is the Chris LeDoux styling of "Everytime I Get On", or the true cowboy song that could as easily be mistaken for Dwight Yoakam, or even written by Canada's Ian Tyson on "A Cowboy's Song", or maybe the feel-good drinkin' numbers like "There's A Hole In My Bottle (Where All The Beer Comes Out)" or "Tied One On A Little To Tight".
Seth Turner as a singer is as strong as any I've seen signed to major label deals over the past year, and his songwriting puts him in the upper echelon. Grab onto this star on the way up.... Although I feel Seth Turner performing live is far ahead of this release, he is no slacker in the "in-studio" area either. A great CD filled with true and honest Country Music that is bound to make Seth Turner a name that will be remembered. Another Day In My Life is a great disc, but if this is just any old day, I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

5 Stars out of 6

"Seth Turner is a true traditional country artist that is the "total package", he not only writes and plays, but also sings in a style reminiscent of Dwight Yoakam. It's just a matter of time until Las Vegas loses him to Nashville."
- Brooks O'Brian, KWNR 95.5 FM Las Vegas, NV
"Seth comes across with a fresh, honest sound of a guy who's lived the life. One of the better storytellers I've heard, and definitely a voice to be reckoned with. The look, the sound, the stories the package. Seth's got it!"
- Mitch Kelly, KWNR 95.5 FM Las Vegas, NV

"Seth Turner's traditional voice and lyrics really brings you back to what Country music ought to be. He has an amazing way of telling true life stories in his songs. He is a true talent that will be here for quite some time!"
- Dwayne Dupuy, Piano playing member of Ricochet and producer of "Another Day In My Life."

"From the first time you see Seth Turner walk on stage, you sense the overwhelming presence of pure undiluted tradition, from the top of his Black Stetson right down to the bottom of his Wranglers, there is no mistaking this cowboy's music, style, or songwriting.

This traditional essence is very reminiscent of the legendary Merle Haggard, yet Seth offers his own a boyish charm and vocals that set him apart and define him from so many others that have performed from the stages in Music City USA.

Off stage you will find that Seth has a fierce undaunting loyalty to those around him including his friends, supporters, and fan base. His sense of integrity and loyalty to himself and those around him will surely carry him far in his pursuit of Country Music Stardom."
