Album Notes
I must confess that I was not in-the-know about the new Sgt. Scagnetti CD, Detonate, and that really bothered me. Needless to say, I now have it in my possession, right next to their debut album, Just Another Trick. Now my life seems somewhat more complete. More fulfilled by listening to the once again offbeat and somewhat disturbing lyrics of Sgt. Scagnetti. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the lyrics, rather they evoke true feeling and a sense of being personal, unlike much of the songwriting world today.

I hastily ordered this CD, furious that I had missed it earlier. When I got it, I wanted to kick my own ass for not getting it sooner: these are truly some of the best songs I've heard, ever. Though I'm sure that I'm missing some of the energy and vitality that these songs would have if I was actually seeing them performed live. Nonetheless, Sgt. Scagnetti is able, through both their bizarre lyrics, but mostly through their tight playing and sometimes really intricate sound, like on the songs "ives manor" and "a-d-d". I play the trumpet, and there's no way in hell I could ever play that well; it defies logic, but moreover speaks to the talent and expertise that Sgt. Scagnetti brings to the forefront of music today.

Maybe my love for this CD is because I too hail from Connecticut. Maybe it's because they have such catchy songs and lyrics, or perhaps it's because they were the first band I ever saw play live. But you want to know the real reason? The reason that Sgt. Scagnetti has won a convert in me is because they are such great musicians and such avid entertainers (go see a live show, you'll see what I mean). I ordered this CD, knowing I was in for a surprise, but this goes far past Sgt. Scagnetti's debut release Just Another Trick, this is Sgt. Scagnetti wrapped up into 15 songs. Buy it, listen to it, and love it, that's all there is too it. --- Marc Chauvin / Rockzone.com
