ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
! Israeli-born rock fusion superstar Mike Shadow Sky has created Peace In Action, a positive peace rehabilitation organization co-founded by Arab Palestinians and Jewish Israelis and dedicated to the proposition that co-existence in the Middle East is possible. The message of co-existence in peace is powerfully delivered by diverse musical performing artists in a series of fund-raising concerts that will benefit organizations who promote tolerance, positive education and mutual understanding. Peace In Action is non-religious, non-political, non-profit and very positive about creating Yes-Hope, Yes-Friendship, Yes-Trust and Yes-Respect.

About SHADOW SKY

In an industry given to pigeonholing talent, Shadow Sky is unique - a tsunami of natural musical talent, exuberance and charisma.
When superstar performers draw on a wide range of genres in a single album, the results can be like hors d'oeuvres of music - varied and savory, but perhaps not as satisfying as a main course. In his eponymous first American album, Superstar guitarist/ arranger/ composer Shadow Sky blends the best of pop, rock, classical, electronic and even Middle Eastern ingredients into more that a plate of rhythmic appetizers: his CD is a full musical meal, rife with innovative sounds and original ideas. It's an album that will not only climb the charts - but also chart its own original course as a new genre of World-Fusion music. SHADOW SKY is love-at-first-listen, and this season's best and brightest American debut.

The artist started out on his musical path as a one-year-old playing a small plastic trumpet (see album cover). His childhood was imbued with a colorful variety of musical and cultural influences which sing today in his own vibrant compositions. He remembers the bright Mediterranean sun, sand dunes and sea. His father Leon played Gypsy songs on a 7-string guitar. His mother Nesia, a music teacher, fed him fresh goat milk every day, bought from an Arab neighbor. And he was surrounded with the pungent aromas and flavors of Arabic Mediterranean food.

When he was seven years old, Shadow Sky's family relocated to Russia. The frozen climate and culture shock were traumatic changes for a young boy. But out of necessity he learned the language fast and adapted himself to his new environment. As a stranger in a strange land (being a Jewish kid in Communist Russia) he experienced a lot of anti-Semitism on an everyday basis. Ironically, the experiences left him with more compassion and understanding of what it is to be mistreated as a Minority.

Inspired by Beatles music from Radio Luxembourg, the artist's challenged life became passionately focused. At that time his family was living in Riga, capital of Latvia. The very day after "Twist & Shout" sent chills down Shadow Sky's spine, he bought a guitar and put his first band together. Years later in 1998 he met Beatles producer Sir George Martin at an Emerging Artists & Talent in Music Conference in Las Vegas, and was able to personally acknowledge him for his creative work, and to relate to Sir George Martin how the Fab Four had changed his life.

When his family returned to Israel, Shadow Sky had to relearn Hebrew. Adamant to make his mark as a professional musician, he practiced furiously for 10-12 hours a day on his first electric guitar, learning songs by the Beatles and Rolling Stones from records he played on an old gramophone he'd brought from Russia. His guitar stayed with him all during his three years of service as an electronic technician in the Israeli Defense Force. Every night off duty he spent composing music. And his duty took him often traveling across Israel, from the snow peaks of mount Hebron to the Negev desert, the Red Sea and Sinai Desert. His experiences in these places left deep impressions on his young musical style, impressions heard and felt in the artists' debut album "SHADOW SKY."

Along with many young musicians the world over, the artist vicariously lived the music of Woodstock the movie, and became firmly established in the rock genre. After completing his army service, he began his professional performing career playing bass with some of the most famous acts in Israel. He performed with Hagashash Hahiver - the biggest comedy act in Israel - as well as with such major names as Shlomo Artzi, Edna Lev, Danny Litany, Ehud Manor, Hanan Yovel, Aric Lavi, Miri Aloni and others.

As a celebrity volunteer during the Yom Kippur war, Shadow Sky played with a band called "Just Us," performing for soldiers on the front lines. He stood on a tank, played his guitar in the freezing winter of the Golan Heights, his fingers glued to the strings from cold, and knew the reality of constant alertness against snipers. He crouched in trenches in the Sinai desert under missile attack, and was made keenly aware of death. His resulting unique perspective on life, war, peace and coexistence is expressed in his composition "War and Peace" on the album Shadow Sky.

In 1976 the artist began formal advanced study at the Rubin Music Academy under his mentor Professor Itzhak Sadai. In composition and theory research studies, the innovative freedoms of the Electronic Music Laboratory held the most interest for Shadow Sky. Here he began work on his avant-garde Concrete-Electronic composition masterpiece "Return to Clarity."

After over a year and half of persistent hard work, research and experimentation with electronics and the musical capacities of objects, he achieved an outstanding final product. He performed "Return to Clarity," along with its choreographed dances, at different concerts throughout the International Music Days Festival in Tel-Aviv in 1980, where his music represented the country of Israel in its catagory. The composition was featured in the album New Age-Next Age which presented the newest and most modern composers of Isreal. Presented in a series of concerts with multi-media coverage, "Return to Clarity" and the album received unanimous critical acclaim.

Shadow Sky moved to Los Angeles to continue his evolution as an artist. He became a producer and lead guitar player with a 14-piece Rock-Up Comedy vocal band "Mike and the Monotones." The popular band performed in different clubs in LA and to SRO at the Shrine. He produced and recorded his American debut World-Fusion album "Shadow Sky" for Faedra Records at Chick Corea's studio Mad Hatter with Chick's personal sound engineer Bernie Kirsch, and in Theta Sound Studios with Randy Tobin as sound engineer.

The album is being released on the web and soon will hit the stores. It can be purchased at www.ShadowSky.com. His album is also featured at www.MP3.com
