by Shannon Scott Band

With a sound that finds itself as much in jazz as in progressive rock and pop, the Shannon Scott Band delivers a refreshingly unique sound with finesse; the groove is natural, the complexities subtle, and the lyrics poetic and intimate.

Album Notes
Shannon Scott is a vocalist/composer from Red Deer, AB, and a graduate of Capilano University's Bachelor of Music program with a major in Jazz Voice and a minor in piano.  With a diverse background in performance, Shannon has performed in New York's Carnegie Hall in 2001 for Jazz Extravaganza, was accepted to perform at the International Association of Jazz Educators conference in 2002 with Take Note, and sang with the acclaimed vocal jazz group Nitecap under the direction of Réjean Marois, performing with such internationally renowned artists as Ed Thigpen, Jimmy Heath, Jean-Michel Pilc, and Kristen Korb.  She was also the recipient of the 2002 Dee Daniel's Jazz Vocalist's scholarship.

Upon graduation, Shannon has put together numerous original projects. Focussing on her project the Shannon Scott Band, she has performed in the 2008 and '09 Vancouver International Jazz Festivals, and was nominated for the 2008 Rising Star award. Drawing from her jazz education and the influence of a wide variety of artists, Shannon achieves in her compositions a fine balance of sophistication and accessibility. The groove is natural, the complexities are subtle, and the lyrics are poetic and intimate; with a sound that finds itself as much in jazz as in progressive rock and pop. She released her first full-length album, Carvings, in 2009.

Shannon also leads and co-leads two other groups more rooted in classic and traditional jazz, Poetrio and Company B Jazz Band respectively. With Company B Jazz Band, a sextet in the style of the Andrews Sisters, she has toured BC and performed as a part of the 2009 Sacramento Jazz Jubilee as well as the 2008 Vancouver International Jazz Festival. This band performed and recorded for the CBC Radio 2 Canada Live series, and was aired on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. Company B also released their first full-length album in early 2009, and will perform as a twelve-piece big band for the 2009 Pender Harbour Jazz Festival.

Shannon also works as a private voice and piano teacher, as well as an arranger, and is an active member of the music community with collaborations and studio work with local artists such as CR Avery, The Contemporary Lovers and Colleen Savage.
