ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“A wondrous, massive, mishmash of a group.” - Time Out Hong Kong magazine

"Despite the large membership and their superb musicianship, theirs is not just a full-on acid jazz symphonic cinematic disco wall of sound but also a music of pauses and dynamic contrasts, when most of the instruments fall away leaving only the glorious and gorgeous voice of Jennifer Palor, simultaneously sweet and husky. It's rare to see one French horn in a band - most unique to see two in this outfit, but that's what you get when a bunch of classically trained musicians decide to get in the groove and expand their horizons." - South China Morning Post (Clockenflap 2015 Review)

Created by Samuel Ferrer, a bassist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, SHAOLIN FEZ is a regular in the Hong Kong festival circuit. The project launched in 2012 with the release of its full-length album, Calm Your Storm, featuring diva Jennifer Palor. Their EP, This is Now Our Home, released in 2019, has contributions from 25 professional musicians and a couple of their most large-scale arrangements to date. As the EP was a crowd-funding success, all proceeds of the band are being pledged towards refugee relief, starting with Save the Children's efforts in Yemen.
