For Pete's Sake, Sing!

by Sharon Abreu & Michael Hurwicz

This album features a bunch of frivolous songs. A couple songs are somewhat philosophical. One is serious, addressing school bullying. Two songs honor our mentor, Pete Seeger. Acoustic guitar, vocal harmonies, fiddle, bass, and just a touch of kazoo.

Album Notes
Over the years, music has connected us with wonderful people from many lands. We feel privileged to have gotten to make music with and learn from Pete Seeger. This CD is about fun songs and singing. It's also about honoring Pete's legacy of building community and a more peaceful, healthy world through action, celebration and song.

"The Art Opening" is based on a true story from my murky past in NYC. So are "Out Your Window" and "Decaf Woman."

"If They Had Asked Me" is my response to the school shootings of the last several years. I was a victim of bullying, and I know the advice "Just ignore them and they'll stop" is not helpful.

"Clown College" came out of an exercise in a songwriting workshop with Sue Ennis on Shaw Island.

"My Knight in Saggy Sweatpants" is a true love story.

When Mike played "Sweet Talk Blues" for me, I knew I had to write a fiddle part for it and sing "Honeyboy."

"A Man of Peace" and "For Pete's Sake, Sing!" were written in honor of Pete Seeger just before is 90th birthday.

"It's All Right" and "Place of Grace" were germinating for years and finally popped out in their current form in a songwriters' circle on Orcas Island.

Acoustic guitar, vocal harmonies, fiddle, bass, and just a touch of kazoo.

Produced and Engineered by Sharon Abreu & Michael Hurwicz, Irthlingz Productionz

"A Man of Peace" and "For Pete's Sake, Sing!" are dedicated to the memory of Pete and Toshi Seeger.
