Album Notes
Singer-songwriter and rhythm mandolinist Sharynlee, recorded a 13 song album titled “BLUEGRASS WITH A HAPPY FACE that features Traditional, Contemporary, and Progressive Bluegrass, along with Bluegrass Gospel Music. All the songs were written by Sharynlee, except, for the pioneer Traditional, “Home On The Range.” The album was recorded in N. Hollywood, California with Sharynlee's long time musician friend, Bassist -Chad Watson and studio owner/Engineer Mary White. The star pickin’ musicians were Evan J. Marshall, Cody Bryant, and Doug Livingston. A special Cello section was produced by Ernst VandeBovenkamp on "The Walls Heard It All", featuring Cellist John Krovoza. The ‘World Class’ harmony singers you hear singing with her are legendary performers Brantley Kearns known for his signature Fiddle playing and vocal work with Country Superstar Dwight Yoakam, and famous vocalist Herb Pedersen, of The Laurel Canyon Ramblers, and Desert Rose Band. "Bluegrass With A Happy Face" by Sharynlee received three Grammy Considerations.

This full-out production utilized the typical traditional Bluegrass acoustic instruments of Mandolin, Banjo, Dobro, and Flat Pickin' guitar, with previous mention of a surprise Cello accompaniment, and then there was a possible Bluegrass derailment with Piano in one of the Bluegrass Gospel versions of "A Friend Indeed".

The album's title came about as a result of Sharynlee's approach that Bluegrass music could be performed with a Happy Face, though, often the lyrics are sad, lonesome, blue, and reflective of the strife experienced in the stories told. A former Bluegrass and Country Music DJ, the sound of this album reflects the roots of the music Sharynlee played on radio in North Carolina, and Virginia, as well as, the music she grew up on back in southern Virginia.

Most of her previous recordings and songwriting were country music or an alternative - country rock styling. As you'll hear, it’s obvious from the heartfelt singing and original material - that this sub-genre of country is a much loved and favorite style that she, too, enjoys immensely.
