Album Notes
"Hands Wide Open" is the first Storytelling CD released by Sheila Arnold (Hampton, VA), most often referred to as "Ms. Sheila." The CD is a compilation of some of her most popular original stories and her widely popular version of the folktale, "Simon and Susannah." The stories are family-friendly. Kids have been raving (and repeating lines to their parents-smiling dismay) from "Weeping Willow" and "Elaina's Birthday Dance." "A Good Stick" is an original story, that is less than 6 months old and the telling on the CD was only the 3rd or 4th telling. "Simon and Susannah" has been popular amongst all ages. The CD rounds out with a lullaby (much to the embarrassment and pride of my 24-year old son), and wtih a poignant personal story entitled, "Vicki." The CD is available for $15 on her website,, and at, CDBaby and

Aslan Productions, with Producer (and Storyteller/Humorist), Donald "Buck" P. Creacy, helped this project through pre-recording work, being in the recording studio with Sheila, and opening up a door with the CD packaging company ( Sheila has said often that Buck was a major impact in making the stories on the CD come alive. For over 4 months, Buck and Sheila met, via phone or Skype, to review stories, develop the characters and look at the format of the CD. If you haven't had a chance to work with an amazing Storyteller to help critique your stories and the way you tell them, and do so with a love and respect for you, the story and the art - then work with Buck - it will be an eye-opener.

Here are some other small tidbits of information: The sound engineer, Neil Kesterson, is well-known throughout Kentucky, where his recording studion, Dynamix Productions, is located. The photography for the CD was done by Andrea Gonzalez. Incredibly, Andrea had just graduated high school and will be starting at Regents University this upcoming year. Her eye behind the camera was wonderful and Sheila has already begun to have postcards made out of the over 600 photos done on the photo shoot. The location used on the CD cover was Powahatan Plantation (if you're visiting Williamsburg, it's a great place to stay), and the location for the back of the CD is my parents' backyard in Hampton, VA. The caftans I am wearing in the pictures, and which are my signature storytelling performance costume, are from

If Sheila sounds like she is one big pitch for others - she is! She appreciates when people do good work and encourages others to use them. Sheila has stated that the CD has been a wonderful way to strengthen her storytelling abilities and has increased income as well. Comments from the CD have been very positive (see below). Enjoy some time with Ms. Sheila - laughing, being touched and realizing how she gives - with her Hands Wide Open.
