Album Notes
"The formidable Shelby Bottom String Band" -- Jack Silverman, Critic's Pick, Nashville Scene. Band members are: Michael August, guitar and lead vocals, Gene Bush, dobro and vocals, Nell Levin, fiddle and vocals, Bob Mason, mandolin, Barry Tashian, snare and vocal, and Holly Tashian, upright bass and vocals. CD was engineered and mastered by Cody Kilby, guitarist extraordinaire and a member of the Ricky Skaggs Band. The answer to the legitimate question of what kind of music we play has always been elusive. Some people call us bluegrass, but look closely -- drum, no banjo. We play songs about love, death, jail, taxes and other unintended consequences. This is roots-based acoustic music. We'll think of a name for it later.

Americana the Beautiful
"When we hear something authentic coming out of Nashville that is fresh, real, fun and yet filled with social commentary set to a distinct style of music, we have the Shelby Bottom String Band. Try to imagine Woody Guthrie meets Robert Johnson meets Steve Earle meets Sam Bush meets Del McCoury meets Scott Joplin meets Steeleye Span, and it might begin to describe the sound of the Shelby Bottom String Band, though the comparisons said, still doesn't do it justice because of the uniqueness of the lyrical content..."
