Album Notes
In "Morning Somewhere", Chicago songwriter Shelley Miller offers up a darkly redemptive journey through loss...and love. From the rootsy title track to the swampy "Hurricane" and the lush folk-pop of "Say It's Love", "Morning Somewhere" marks Miller's maturation as a songwriter and offers a collection of tunes sure to appeal to fans of artists such as Patty Griffin, Lucinda Williams, Kris Delmhorst and Eliza Gilkyson.

Produced by Tommi Zender, "Morning Somewhere" features Miller's rich voice, guitar work and evocative storytelling, and guest appearances by Zender (multiple instruments, vocals), Ellen O'Hara (Scotland Yard Gospel Choir - cello), Greg Schultz (Lush Budgett, Lure - pedal steel), Kara Kulpa (fiddle, vocals) and Anthony Whitaker (vocals).

"Shelley Miller binds her ragged tales of urban life in lines of unflinching truth. She's one of those rare songwriters you might rightfully call a poet."
--Andrew Calhoun, Waterbug Records

Shelley Miller is a hopeful caterpillar on a shaky branch of life. Equal parts condemned building, strawberry shortcake and high lonesome cowgirl, Shelley writes to document the hidden bits of everyday existence. Blending genres as seamlessly as her voice bends notes, Shelley writes in the margins between Americana, folk, pop and blues-rock.

"Listening to her is like pulling up a pair of very,
very soft faded jeans over bare skin."
--Les Reynolds, indie-music.com

A tireless performer, Shelley has won over audiences in both intimate coffeehouses and large festivals. Her encore performance at the 2004 Midwest Music Summit (with Dave Golden and Jeremiah Birnbaum) was lauded as "a highlight and perfect ending to an amazing weekend of music" by Mary Lee Pappas of NUVO. Other standout performances include the Rockrgrl Music Conference (Seattle), Estrojam, Millenium Park, The Chicago Folk and Roots Festival, Ladyfest Lansing, Nashville New Music Conference, MidPoint Music Festival (Cincinnati) and the Queer is Folk Festival (Chicago).

Shelley released her debut CD, Tear Me Down, in June of 2002. She has organized showcases and two midwest tours for Indiegrrl. She teaches guitar and songwriting at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and has appeared as a guest vocalist on several albums. When not playing music, Shelley can often be found careening her bicycle through the streets of Chicago...singing.

Absolutely great songs, wonderful production, diverse as hell
This CD stands up to many repeat listens. Just beautiful stuff. Miller's growth as a writer & a singer since her first release "Tear Me Down" is astounding. Tommi Zender's production & multi-instrumental work enhances the songs without over-cooking them. Highlights are "Beauty Wash Over Me" "Danger Danger" "Marie Curie" and "Rocking Chair". Buy this, you will appreciate owning it!
