When I was 10 years old, I played the bass saxophone that my Dad used in band and for drill team at Granite High School. I toted that thing back and forth to school every day through heat, rain, sleet and snow (no kidding - 30 minutes one way unless we dawdled, and then it was longer, which was quite often - LOL!). I became very tough indeed!
Then disaster struck...I required orthodontic work and was informed that I could no longer play the sax. :-/ That certainly felt like a trial, but I was grateful to be given the option of playing a different instrument. I felt the flute would be next, and I loved it as well, but only played it for one year and then continued on with piano playing instead. That has been my staple since I was six years old. I still always wished, though, that I had a small flute to play that I could carry around in my purse so I could play it wherever I was.
About four and half years ago, I was attending a local lightworker group meeting, Tattwic Tides, here in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area, and a young man shared with me that someone had given him a very small Native American Flute that day. He asked me if I'd like to try it, as I'd just told him my dream about having a purse-sized flute. My father-in-law had just shown me how to play one of these kind of flutes literally just a month before and had given me one that he'd put together from one of those kits you can buy, so I had a novice idea of how to play it.
I played it for a few notes and ran up and down the scale real quick (it sounded delightful!), said thanks for letting me try and handed it back. He took the little flute in both hands, brought it to his chest, closed his eyes for a moment and then offered it back to me and told me it was mine. I was so surprised and grateful! I even carry it in my purse with me now!
The flavor of this album has a meditative, zen quality and is based in the elements of nature. There's a bit of toning, a bit of drumming, along with birds singing, water flowing, fire sparking, wind blowing and horses...an absolute must! There's also a bit of intuitively channeled language containing the energy of a wise Grandmother sharing the comforting message of peace and hope with her grandchildren around the fire at night, reassuring them that all is well.
Each of the flutes in this album have their own unique voice. The thing I love most about playing these flutes is that I'm no longer tied to sheet music. I can just play whatever comes to my heart! That is how Wood Spirit Speaks came in to being. Each song is not repeatable by me, nor would I like to try.
I'm very excited to share it with everyone and hope you enjoy it a lot!
