ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Sherpas might well be the first acoustic singer/songwriter supergroup."
- San Antonio Express-News

It is rare to find a group of established artists who are able to bring their individual muses together, creating a musical whole which surpasses the sum of its individual parts. The Sherpas have this ability, and the result is soul-stirring. Tom Prasada-Rao, Michael Lille, and Tom Kimmel first met in 1993, when all three were winners of the prestigious Kerrville New Folk competition; since that time they have toured together on both coasts and points between.

Close friends for years, often passing like ships in the night as they pursued solo careers, the band members have finally found common ground for long enough to record a stunning album. "Honor Among Thieves" is a soulful presentation, weaving a tapestry of their many facets through thirteen spiritual, political, romantic, groovy, compelling collaborative compositions. Unique.

Tom Kimmel's songs have been recorded by legendary artists from Joe Cocker to Linda Ronstadt. Tom Prasada-Rao's passion and soul have earned him numerous writing and performing awards, and Michael Lille's lustrous guitar playing has earned him the respect and admiration of peers and fans across the country.

Philosophically stirring, theologically subtle; a welcome relief from contemporary Christian palp.

First time hearing this group and the CD is incredible!
I am impressed with this CD, as I heard the song "Ships" on a local folk show I was impressed with the range of songs on the CD. I didn't think that song could be equalled, but fortunately you proved me wrong. It is great to have a CD that you get for one song and wind up liking all of them. I look forward to more of your music. The mix of styles is impressive and the guitar work and vocals are superb. I really enjoy the quality of the band sound which makes the recording that much more full. Keep up the great work.

great music!
Great music, though not as good as "live". Why not record one set, like at Kerrville?

Fantastic. . . as usual!
I've been a huge fan of Michael Lille since his SGGL days. He will always be one of my absolute favorite singer/songwriters. Thanks to his association with The Sherpas, I have been introduced to two other phenomenal talents.

This is a GREAT CD! Nice mix of upbeat and mellow as well. Buy it. No, wait. . .buy a dozen and give them away as gifts. Your friends will thank you! While you're at it, treat yourself to Michael Lille's solo CDs and the SGGL CDs. You won't be able to get enough. It's that fantastic!!!!

great, super, wonderful; worth getting more than one.
I love this Cd. It's the second copy I have, one for the house, one for the car. Maybe I need another one for work. Keep the great music coming.

No fakin', no foolin', so worth the wait
Honor Among Thieves is a delightful mix of bright lyrics, intricate guitar work, and harmonious vocals. The songs are primarily about relationships: relationships with ourselves, with other people, and with the Divine. Some lyrics draw their inspiration from Christianity, but not in an exclusive way. Sherpas (the mountaineering guides for whom the group is named) are traditionally Tibetan Buddhists. The CD's title song speaks highly of both Jesus and Buddha. And the exquisite "Gitanjali" ("Song Offerings") is based on the Nobel Prize winning book by Tagore (who came from a Hindu family). Heck, I'm agnostic, and I like this CD anyways. My favorite song is "Jesus, Chicks & Politics," with all its funny, grooving, pointed commentary. I've heard live performances by The Sherpas as an ensemble and also as individuals, and they bring a lot of humor and humanity to their concerts. It's difficult to fully capture that sort of vibe in the studio, but Honor Among Thieves is a fine effort. It's easy to sing along to, and especially well suited for road trips.

Amazing
This is one of my very favorite albums. I actually got to see these guys live at a house concert. What amazing talents. What gifted musicians. What wonderful people. Their music captured me, love this cd! Gitanjali made me cry when I heard it live. Doesn't get any better than this.

Great music!
Have listened to Michael Lille for years (I'm from the great college era of the 80's at JMU in Virginia) - really appreciate his talent, and was curious about the sound of Sherpas. Absolutely great music, lyrics, entire sound is a refreshing change from all the "usual" radioplay. The three voices and style combine into one great CD!
