Album Notes
Shlomi Ash released his debut single “Taking Me Over” internationally in July 2018. The track sprawls with inventive flair, built on a driving drumbeat and luscious sounding guitars that will linger in your mind long after you have finished listening.

Singer-songwriter Shlomi Ash represents one of the most interesting artists to rise from Tel Aviv’s burgeoning indie music scene. Having taught himself to play the guitar and written his first simple songs before he was even ten, Shlomi always knew that he wanted to be a musician.

In his early 20’s he frequently travelled and set up for long periods in the American Midwest as well as Italy, where he honed his craft and was inspired by local musicians and American rock, folk and blues legends such as Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Jeff Buckley and Robert Johnson. He also studied English Literature at university obsessing over Walt Whitman, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan during his entire degree. Fresh out of university he started what he describes as an unexpectedly illuminating experience, working in a 40th-floor office of a business company. Despite the extremely tense and unfamiliar environment, he would unwind by writing songs about the inner workings and characters he saw.

In 2017 Shlomi was involved in a big car accident and was left unable to use his left arm for 6 months. Representing a huge wake-up call, he relocated to England and reached out to producer Chris Potter (the Verve, the Rolling Stones, Blur). An instant connection was formed and the two decided to relocate to the Southern English countryside for two months working meticulously in order to perfect Shlomi’s compositions. Recruiting Damon Minchella (the Who, Oasis, Paul Weller) on bass, Geoff Dugmore (Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks) on drums and Tim Wills (Ian Brown) on the keys they proceeded to add layer upon layer of drums, guitars, keyboards, strings and backing vocals forming a big cohesive sound.

Recorded at Kore Studios (Florence and the Machine, Amy Winehouse, Brett Anderson, Roger Daltry) and Eastcoat Studios (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Jake Bugg, Adele, Mumford and Sons) the resulting eleven tracks perfectly reflect Shlomi’s vision.

“Taking Me Over” is the first release from this session and represents a great introduction to Shlomi Ash’s imaginative and sincere sound.
