ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Short Sisters - Fay Baird, Kim Wallach and Kate Seeger -have beeen singing and performing together since 1979. Though they are not really sisters, and are not particularly short, they do sound like sisters and share a delight in harmony. The songs favored by the trio tell stories and paint pictures, conveying strong visual images through music. They favor a capella arrangements but also accompany themselves on guitar, autoharp and banjo. The Short Sisters challenge the audience's imagination and invite their paticipation with compelling words, powerful melodies and elegant arrangements.

Audiences comment on more than just he trio's extraordinary harmonies and choice of material. Their playfulness and pleasure in each others company leave listeners energized and cheered. Their repertoire includes intricate rounds, songs from Anglo, American and African-American traditions and material from contemporary songwriters. The Short Sister's favorite songs, funny or moving, thought-provoking or frivolous, traditional or newly written, convey optimism about tackling life's challenges. They have recorded four albums available through Black Socks Press. Their latest cd, Love and Transportation, was reviewed in SingOut in the fall of 2002.

REVIEWS:
"their harmonies are extraordinary especially on rounds and a capella numbers. They convey good humor and sensitivity to their music and audiences. And the music comes from everywhere -- traditional, Tom Gala, Peggy Seeger and Ewan MaColl, Kim Wallach, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Stan Rogers and many more.... The combination of traditional, self written and selections of other songwriters works, ... a first class show." Victor Heyman, Vic's Music Corner

" (the Short Sisters)...offer a deeply-felt musicality that needs no ostentation, a warming humanity in their choice of of quietly inspiring songs..." James Strecker, Canada, ARTSbeat, Best New CDS Spring '98
