Album Notes
Shorty & the Mustangs release their third CD; a collection of twelve original songs, titled ‘Stumptown Swing!’ Influenced by western swing, honky-tonk and roots country, this CD features an eclectic mix of tunes that sound as if they could have been produced circa 1950, give or take a decade. ‘Stumptown Swing!’ marks the first all-original CD from a band that’s been sharing its love of American music with local audiences for the last 17 years.

Well-known for its strong vocals and rich instrumentation, Shorty & the Mustangs features the smooth, heartfelt voice of lead singer, Shorty Barnet. His song, ‘Anticipation’, is a cool, ‘Rat Packy’ take on Portland’s club scene. Spurring on a steady dance beat, be it swing, honky-tonk or a waltz , Ken Woodside (drums), and Ben Milstein (bass), make up the band’s rhythm section. Mike Moore keeps things moving with his Eldon Shamblin style pickin'. Mike, along with Geoff Clarkson, wrote the title cut, ‘Stumptown Swing’, a thank you to all those swing dancers who helped energize the band’s Portland shows over the years. Mitch ‘Big Tex’ Gilbert plays steel guitar in a style that roots the band in its mid-century sound, and penned songs like ‘Broken Heart Attack’, a rock-a-billy rave up. Ex-pats Geoff Clarkson (guitar and mandola) and Dan Wolken (bass), are also featured on the CD.
