ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
When you first listen to Shouvik Banerjee's Five Year Plan, you are struck by the honesty of the lyrics and singing. It is direct and clear. Nothing is layered beneath mysterious pretense. As you listen more closely, you notice a common theme across all the songs: optimistic reflection. The songs are both positive and profound.

Some songs touch on relationships. From Stuck in the Morning to the more mature Deeper Waters, they capture the ups and downs of those who approach life with great and invincible expectations. Some songs touch on spiritual themes, both eastern and western, and struggle to claim a place for spiritually minded people who respect religion but reject the arrogance and intolerance that sometimes accompany it.

At times, like in Not One Song, the lyrics are funny and filled with double meaning. At other times, like in Beethoven's Bar or Unplayed Melody, the songs use vivid metaphors that suggest the influence of Dylan's Desolation Row or Mr. Tambourine Man. While a few songs are a bit weighty, the music is best when it is not demanding. And the majority of songs are inviting. The lightness of the lyrics makes you first listen and then understand.

Amazing
These are 9 songs of remarkable polish and quality. They're romantic without being cheezy and spiritual without being in your face. Five Year Plan drew me in and I listen to it over and over again. Everyone loves Deeper Waters, but don't miss the others. Unplayed Melody is a hidden gem that, when you get it, leaves you breathless.

passionate and insightful...
Five Year Plan is one of the most moving CDs I own. The lyrics are written from the heart and the music itself is inspiring and calming at the same time. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who is interested in real music from an artist who writes, sings, and plays from the soul.

Very moving and soothing.
I particularly enjoyed the lyrics. Guitar playing was equally impressive. Shouvik's voice is very impressive and reminds me of Neil Diamond.
