Album Notes
"Preservation through composition."

Hailing from the centuries old Gandharva musical tradition of Nepal, Shyam Nepali has enjoyed an almost 30 year long career bringing the sounds of the Sarangi to audiences around the world. Shyam has filled a very unique and important role in the Sarangi tradition of Nepal, expanding on the work of his Grandfather, Magar Gaine, and his father, Ram Sharan Nepali, legendary Sarangi players who broke new ground in the world of Sarangi playing with their technical and artistic innovations to the instrument. Shyam's sons, Prince Nepal and Preezol Nepali, are continuing the tradition of innovation and virtuosity in this beautiful tradition.

This album is a collection of just a sprinkling of Shyam's original songs. They speak of the places, people, and feelings of life in Nepal. The notes seem to melt out of the sarangi itself, reflecting the beauty of the natural landscape that inspired them. The emotion of water, the thought and freedom of air, the passion of fire, and rhythm of earth soar out of sarangi and through Shyam's masterful, timeless vocals.

Shyam believes that no matter where we are on this earth, everyone is connected through music, sharing music, and the power of art and sound.
