Flickering Into Existence

by Sianed

Stripped down to the bare bones of Voice and Violin. This is the singer songwriter accompanying herself not on guitar but on violin. 'Progressive Vocal Violinism' conjures up a whole orchestra between the two parts. Unforgettable Songs, Captivating Vocals

Album Notes
At times it is hard to distinguish which is the voice and which is the violin as they meld and compliment each other seamlessly. There are danceable grooves over which her voice soars and others where her voice is the accompaniment to heart rendering violin melodies. She sings of love, of identity, of astronomical celestial beings, of avatars in cyber space, and merges politics and emotion with an explosive setting of a poem by Osama Abu Kabir from 'Poems from Guantanamo'. The influences of Sianed's travels across the world are reflected in her vocal techniques, but her sound remains uniquely her own.

This album is full of 'Sianedisms'. The stripped down nature of it lays bare the quirky way she decorates melodies at the end of a phrase, the way the harmonies and chordal structures are places together. It demonstrates the variety of textures and wide range of her voice. She has allowed the classical edge of her violin training to seep into her music. The narrative in the songs drive the structure producing surprising twists and turns. This album is definately neither for the chill out room nor for the fainthearted.
