Album Notes
This is a benefit CD. All net proceeds from the sale of this CD benefit Artists for Literacy - a nonprofit that connects artists and their work to English teachers who are on the front lines of the fight against illiteracy. We are grateful to CD Baby for facilitating these on-line sales.

The Songs Inspired by Literature Project - SIBL - a project of Artists for Literacy - is made up of artists who care about creating a more literate world. Each of the artists on this CD responded to a call for songs inspired by books, plays or poems. We held a contest - 382 songwriters sent in songs from 35 states and 6 countries. We picked the best 10 songs and matched them with commercial cuts written by world class artists: David Bowie, Tom Waits, Rosanne Cash, Steve Earle and Vicki Randle.

These songs are the bridge between readers and non-readers. They connect us all to great works of literature and engage our ears so that our eyes may be tempted to drink in some words too. We hope you enjoy Chapter Two. Visit

Even better than Ch. 1! My new favorite CD!
I own the first SIBL project benefit CD, and I couldn't wait for this one to come out. Each song is a relevation. I especially love Ana Porter's "Hunger," "Tread Softly," by Eileen Laverty, and "Voice Inside," by Stephanie Riggio. This is a truly wonderful CD, produced to raise money for a wonderful cause!

super stellar
Chapter two is even better than chapter one. More diverse, intelligent music based on diverse, intelligent literature. Very enjoyable.

nice idea
I like the idea of the project, and some of the songs are very catchy. This week we are going to try a little square dance in school listening to Poker Alice... best wishes from Vienna, Austria

Love the first one? You'll worship Chapter 2.
SIBL Chapter 2 is certainly the equal of Chapter 1, and I personally like it even more. Many of the song lyrics can stand alone as fine creative writing, well-crafted and often quite intense and/or lovely. There is a good, wide range of music styles, some of which we will all like more than we like others. You will want your friends to hear this CD.

My favorite gift-giving CDs
I absolutely adore Chapter One and now Chapter Two is capturing my heart as well. No where else can you find such diverse music, from Rosanne Cash to David Bowie to Deborah Pardes and Steve Earle. Siddhartha is one of my favorite books of all time, so to see it represented here is a magnificent gift. Thank You SIBL and may this book have MANY chapters!

another aesthetically intelligent selection of songs in compilation for a great
the literary aspect of this project, and these songs, ties in even deeper the contemplative, intelligent emotion of quality songwriting. Even more diverse than last year's, this well stocked CD has prompted me to look into two of the texts that inspired the songs, so far, who knows how many more...and to utilize the material in a musicaliterary radio program of mine on public radio (KWMR 90.5 fm Point Reyes, CA.) Look forward to next year's

Good music for a good cause
I liked this CD almost as much as volume 1, but some of the songs are a little more country-inspired than I would pick. Still great for a reflective mood, and I will still buy chapter 3.

It's all good!
Chapter 2 of SIBL is good music and great lyrics. What a
wonderful charity to support, too!

Perfect for the high school classroom
These CD's are a perfect way for me to incorporate something in my classroom that my students don't feel is a "waste of time". As an English teacher I am constantly hearing how we don't do anything in high school that applies to their lives.... well, in my classroom, now we do!!

SIBL helps bring inspiration full circle.
First, a story was written. Then it was read, sometimes inspiring the readers to bursts of prose themselves, which of course, led to music and finally to SIBL. Now it is my muse as I teach a diverse classroom the basics of how to enjoy literature. We will practice ekphrasis as well. Thanks for inspiring even more creativity.
