Album Notes
For immediate press release – July 2012

The south Texas Rock n Roll band, Sidewinder, was founded in August of 1984 by guitarist David Valdez and drummer Paul Pederson. Performing in various other bands yet, never together, Valdez and Pederson, joined forces under simplistic common ground which was their shared passion for high energy Rock n Roll music. Influenced by music and artists over a broad era from the 60’s through the 80’s, Sidewinder’s sound and style evolved into a unique distinctive original blend. As a trio, the band’s trademark sound is based not only on Valdez’s ability to literally shred on the guitar combined with the broad full tone, clarity, and wall of sound coming through his amplifiers yet, his technique, approach and conviction as he plays. Pederson has enough drums around him to make two drum kits out of his one. With his arsenal, he is able to provide a solid foundation while, simultaneously, incorporating fills and accents blending with the solid bass lines and tastefully accentuating Valdez's blazing guitar riffs. Lead vocals are shared between both Valdez and Pederson.
Throughout the years, Sidewinder built a following from their home base in Brownsville, Texas playing local venues and traveling to perform showcase engagements such as the South By Southwest Musical Festival in Austin, Texas and various other showcase events. Sidewinder released its own self titled debut LP, "Sidewinder" in 1989 which was subsequently re-released in 2014 featuring such crowd favorites as Dreamers, Cruisin’ On the Levee, Ready To Rock, and Flyin’ High which received FM radio airplay in select markets across Texas and Mexico. Their most recent release, "My Country", with its patriotic title track of the same name expressing the concerns of the general populous of their disgust and misguidance of the government, was released in October of 2012.
Sidewinder has always been a dedicated supporter of charity and non-profit organizations. They have contributed their time and efforts in performing benefit concerts for such causes as The Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, Toys For Tots, United Blood Services, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Campaign For A Drug Free America. Also, they were featured as the house band for several episodes of a local television talk show.
Although the core of Sidewinder, Valdez and Pederson, has never changed, other members have come and gone along the way. The original bass player was St. Louis, Missouri native, Mike Arent (1984-87) followed by Brownsville’s JJ Pena (1987-89), and Rey Ybarra (1989-91). Contributing to the band briefly as lead vocalist was Raul Garcia of Alamo, Texas (1989-90). Joining Valdez and Pederson in the current line up is the return of bassist Rey Ybarra. Ybarra brings back to the band his exceptional talent with a solid yet, spicy style on the bass guitar. Along with the bass, he brings his talents as a vocalist as well. Ybarra's exceptional ability in moving around the fret board provides the third and final element to the recipe for the distinct Sidewinder sound.
Music is merely an expression of a multitude of emotions, personality, and experiences brought forth and conveyed through instrumentation and voice. From the club stage to the concert stage and all points in between, Sidewinder hopes to see you sometime soon!
