Album Notes
Currently called The West Side Winders (, the band formerly known as The Sidewinders began in early spring of 2001. Chicago based musician Dan Peters took influences ranging from Elvis & Johnny Cash to Brian Setzer & Stevie Ray Vaughan and worked towards putting together a group that would be both challenging and entertaining.

After working through several stylistic and personnel changes, the band settled into the perfect niche as a "surfabilly" power trio.

Their music mixes rockabilly, surf, jump-blues, honky-tonk, jazz and western swing into a high-octane blend that rocks a little harder than your typical roots oriented group.
The three members are all journeyman musicians who have recorded; performed and toured the world with many Chicago based acts.

Dan Peters - gtr, vocals
Dan has put his guitar skills to work for several high profile regional acts including: The Big Swing, The Chicago Children's Choir, Susie Dobb's, The Vanguard Aces, Sam Burckhardt, Professor John and The Tom Carey Band.
Career highlights include: A top-ten finalist in Guitar Player's Guitar Superstar 2008, 2nd runner-up in the 2007 North American Rock Guitar Competition, performing with Jules Holland of Squeeze for a BBC television special on Chicago blues, playing with The Vanguard Aces on Cupid (a former prime-time TV show for ABC starring Jeremy Piven) and winning Chicago's Hottest Guitarist Contest in 1994 (sponsored by Budweiser and Washburn Guitars)and recorded work on popular video golf game "Golden Tee."

Randy Riley - bass, backing vocals
Randy has performed with The Cathy Richardson Band, Survivor, Jim Peterik's World Stage, The Ides of March and Dave Uhrich.
Career highlights include: recording with Rich Nielson and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick and performing with The All American Marching Band at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Joe Kunkel - drums
Joe has performed with: Arthur Lee and Cats Under The Stars, Mister Blotto and Funkhouse.
Career highlights include: Performing with The Sidewinders?!?

The Sidewinders changed their name to The West Side Winders last year. Their newest release is "Snaken Not Stirred" go to

Sidewinders rock Chicago Bluesfest 2004
Guitar based blues with a rockabilly twang, these guys rocked the Bluesfest for what I hear is not the first time. They sound great live and great on this CD. If you like danceable, guitar-based blues-infused music (and who wouldn't) give these guys a try. I just wish they played Washington, DC so I could see them again soon! Guys, consider this an invitation! And CDBaby gave me much better service than I got from my order from Bad Buy (aka Best Buy), a store who is still whining about sending me a replacement order a month after they charged my credit card!

A very cool guitar driven blast of tunes!
On Come and Get It The Sidewinders show that they can mix genres and get away with it. A rare feat, indeed. If this one doesn't get you up off the couch, you may want to have your pulse checked. The guitar work is simply amazing.

The Sidewinders Smoke
Some of the best genre jumping music you’ve never heard is released by indie bands — those unsung saviours of the music world who slog out a living without a major record label on their back, making an honest buck doing what they love, all by themselves.
Unfortunately you never hear them on the radio and never see them on television. The only way to hear of them is by either catching them live or hearing them on-line.
On-line is where I met the Sidewinders, a Chicago surfabilly trio who live at the junction of Elvis Presley Boulevard, Reverend Horton Heat Street after taking a left turn at Dick Dale Drive.
I listened to the Sidewinders, loved the Sidewinders instantly and ordered it immediately from
On their new CD, released late last year, guitarist /vocalist Dan Peters, who sings about falling in love with waitresses, broken hearts, living on the road and taking life easy and having a little bit of fun, shreds on an old Gretsch guitar.
Bassist Randy Riley, who has played with Survivor and Jim Peterik, sets down a blues walking old time rock n’ roll rhythm, while Joe Kunkel lays down an unstoppable beat. Way Down Low is just one of many tunes to make you want to boogie all night long
I defy anybody to listen to the first couple notes of the first track The Girl at The Diner and try to stop the old toes from tapping. They’ll be tired toes by the end of this 39 minute listen, which ends with a waa waa pedal drenched surfabilly meltdown, the Spooky Surfer. You just don’t appreciate the whole song on the two minute download. The Sidewinders smoke, the musicianship is impeccable. They have IT. And that is hard to find today.

Thought That Guitar Would Catch Fire in His Hands
First heard Sidewinders on Roots Rock Radio at Went to CD Baby, got the CD in 48 hours, listened, and thought to myself...Man, that guitar might just catch fire in his hands. Rockin' hard surfabilly hot guitar licks and howling vocals delivered by a power trio that makes you ask yourself where can I hear more of this? Recording quality is very very good for an independently produced CD. I recommend this CD to anybody that needs some hard driving hot rock keep your feet going sounds.

My Music tastes vary thus the need for many CD's. The Come and Get It CD cuts my collection down. I think the CD and the Band are great. If i can't get to a live appearance to hear Stand Down, i throw in the CD!

This CD is a Gem !!
Just Awesome Guitar work. The CD is a really entertaining blend of Rockabilly, Surf, and Blues. Every track makes a statement. I saw the band live at the Chicago Blues Fest and picked up the CD right after the show. Bottom Line: This CD is a Gem.

The MOST awesome CD I have listened to in a long time. True toe tapping and sing at the top of your lungs kind of music. Guaranteed to put anyone in a good mood. I have had people ask me who is that group you are listening to and where can I get that CD? All I can say is, you GOTTA GET IT! Sindwinders are awesome.

Chrome-Plated Rockabilly gone Wild!
The Sidewinders, through a blending of referential solo, and modern technique, have brought all the excitement and energy of bygone days back to life. They have supercharged, tubbed, and glass-packed their rockabilly/surfabilly forms, creating a thunderous showpiece that purrs like a kitten, both classically familiar and strikingly new. This album is Buddy Holly, Brian Setzer, Elvis and Steve Vai, pulling low nines in the same candy-apple red '57 Chevy.

best thing I have ever heard - wonderful for all
Music is fluid and snappy. Every music listener should like this. No one catalog can log this unique style of keep your feet tapping and huge grin on your face music.
