Album Notes
You wouldn't expect much from the debut album by this father-son rock band, especially since drummer Damon Tweedy is only thirteen and guitarist/vocalist Tim Tweedy is well into his forties. But this new duo called Silky Marie lights it up on their first release.

It began innocently enough. Damon played percussion in his middle-school band. Tim played in bands when he was younger but hadn't picked up his guitar in years. One night Tim dusted off his 6-string and plugged in his Marshall amp while Damon was practicing. He thought a jam session with his kid might be fun. Turns out it was more than fun. The sound was amazing, and the feel was just right...proving that sometimes the best teams and sounds come in unexpected ways.

Tim and Damon worked out a few cover tunes for fun, but soon moved on to writing their own music. Inspiration seemed to come from everywhere. Surprised by their quick progress and thrilled with their material, they decided if they came up with enough songs they'd record an album. Just a few months later, they had their songs and began collaborating with the Minneapolis-based production team at F5 SoundHouse.

Combining old-school blues guitar riffs with the energy of a young and ferocious drummer, the result is a tribute to a time when rock music was easy, upbeat and fun. You feel it in the funky groove of "Long Time Comin'" and you hear it in the opening thump of "One of a Kind." The rocker "Over the Line" demands volume, as do the broken-hearted "Down & Out" and "Face in the Crowd." There is mood and emotion here as well: a testament to love's strength in "Everything to Me," the pain of the ultimate loss in "I'll Keep Waiting," and the heartfelt ache of letting go in "All I Want." The grind of "Your Sweet Time" draws on the long celebrated history of the blues, so does the stripped-down fun of "Movin' on Blues."

Blending the indie attitude and sound of bands like The White Stripes and The Black Keys with the arena rock spirit of legends like Bad Company and Led Zeppelin, the roots of rock and roll are alive and well with the Tweedy boys of Silky Marie.

Produced and engineered by award-winning artist/producers Owen Sartori and Davide Raso at F5 SoundHouse in Minneapolis.
